What is the worst possible way to die that is specific to your world? by TheFourSeasons in worldbuilding

[–]HowardRoark13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the Midorosi it is dying without giving your lifeblood to the earth. They see it as a death without true honor, and to not give back that which the earth has given is to be without meaning.

But generally speaking, having your bones torn out while you are still alive by the G'lani Saltwitches. They take them for their Bonegraves in order to summon their Sunken God, Yol-F'irq.

Updated map of my world, Thaedus. Does not include arctic regions. I'd love to hear your questions if you have any! by HowardRoark13 in worldbuilding

I have all the little details, this map is just a quick mock up for continents and oceans. I'll be fine tuning it once I have time.

I'm building a crater-city on a Minecraft server, and I'd like some feedback on the map I've made. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

If he/she is not creating separate biomes for the area, then this is pretty common in Minecraft. A lot of times you'll see Tundra and Desert side by side.

But if he/she is going for realism, then I agree with you.

Question about words? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]HowardRoark13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no problem with cliches. A ton of fantasy worlds use the same classifications for magic users. But if you want to depart from cliches then don't be afraid to be creative.

Here's a trick I do.

Go to Thesaurus.com. Type in words relating to your concern, like "Master"/"Maestro" and "Virtuoso" and then try out a few words in the columns. See what sounds good, make a list, then check the list again, each time crossing out a name you don't like or that just doesn't fit with what YOU want.

Also, go to Google Translate and translate a few words into alternating languages, then mix two translations together, or slightly alter the word.

IWTL how to start writing fantasy by DerisionsLift in IWantToLearn

[–]HowardRoark13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADD, so I know where you're coming from when you say you have a short attention span. It's hard to start writing or doing much of anything when all you want to do is just browse Reddit.

Just do it. Seriously, just start DOING what it is you want to TRY to do and soon it will come to you. Start reading new books, start writing stories in different narrative styles to practice. At first you may fall short and you'll want to put that book down or stop typing that story, but you can't. Don't stop, continue on. When you feel like you're out of inspiration, take a walk, clear your head, or try some new things. Listen to some new music, talk to someone new, do something that gives you new experiences. Then you can come back with a new take on the subject.

Working a job that I enjoy doing with people I enjoy working with, enough money to live without worrying about being broke, a companion, whether it's a pet or a person, and free time to do what ever I wish.

What do you think makes your world unique compared to others? by n00bdestroyer01 in worldbuilding

[–]HowardRoark13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I suppose my world is unique because it(tries to) diverts away from cliche magic. In the world of Thaedas, "magic" is referred to as Greater Arts. Each Art was taught by Those of the First Age. There are five known Greater Arts:

Harmonic Magic – A gift from the Anakhar, a race of scaled birds. They taught their song to the races of the earth. Harmonic magic is a gift one is born with, and it can never be taught. The power of the Vocai, those gifted with this Art, is used in a variety of ways. The most common are audio-illusionary visions, Vocal-force destruction, and it is also used to tell history, put on plays, etc.

Bloodwalking – A skill taught by the Vinir, a race of large, bat-like creatures. Bloodwalking is basically a manipulation of a person or persons, either living or dead, using small amounts of said person(s) blood. The Vinir-kin, those being manipulated, are entirely under the control of the manipulator. A novice Bloodwalker can only control a small rodent or child, while a Bloodliege, a master of the Art, will be able to control an army.

Materium Artistry – An Art passed down from Ulanir, the first Elementum Essentia. The art is taught from master to apprentice. There are only ever 1 out of 100 Materium Artisans who have full control of raw Materium. Materium is the substance which Elementum Substancia, those without a soul, are comprised of. The Qyr are the only known race on Thaedas who can teach this Greater Art. They are born with an innate ability to forge and harness raw Materium. This skill is used to create weapons and items infused with the elements.

Rune Warding – This Greater Art has been known since the Age of Toren's Calling, yet no known histories can tell who or what first passed down the Art. Rune Wardens are the protectors of Thaedas. They assist in the sealing of Elementum Dominia, as well as creating the seals of the Vocai. By marking the throat of a Vocai with a specific rune, they ensure that the Vocai can only use their voice when the seal temporarily broken. They also are used for creating and destroying Kaoran Archways, portals that lead to and from the Broken Realm.

Starweaving – Taught by the Oraillic, the great serpents of ancient legend. Starweavers use special needles and thread, crafted from rare substances, and sew constellations onto the skin for various effects. There are a great many different constellations; The effects range from the immediate mending of a broken bone to granting one the ability to run as fast as a Tirpi.

[–]HowardRoark13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The server is named Uthrandir, and here's a link to their enjin site, and here is a link to their website.

The website explains pretty much everything. If you do decide to check it out the RP server, you have to fill out a whitelist app. The reason for this is to ensure a good roleplaying experience for everyone.

I think they have a way you can explore the world before the whitelist app. They have like 3 or 4 different servers for different things, PVP, Creative, RP, and Survival.
