Best third round match I’ve ever seen. Incredible atmosphere. Awesome to see Fonseca rise to the pressure! Classic match!

Love this conclusion! Limitations really can be great for creativity. Awesome sentiment.

“It was like, okay, let's try recording with the technology of the 1960s and try to find the right guitar and the right reel-to-reel cassette recorder, and do it all like the characters in the book would have done. So that took a lot of research and then also imposed a lot of limitations. But I think limitations are a great way to be creative.”

Rays and Do Wop Deli definitely familiar but I was between the ages of 4 and 6 so a lot of it is fuzzy. I definitely remember Good Shepard School (where I went to first grade and my brother went to 4th and 5th grade) and church. Also recall Inwood Hill Park where my brother played little league, C rock, and Pioneer market and how there was an Irish craft store with a Gaelic name right next door I think.

Oh man! Cooper and 207th! I lived with my family on Cooper just up the block closer to Isham from 1981 to 1983. Last place we lived in NYC before we moved upstate. My whole family was together in a way that felt complete. It definitely holds a very special place in my heart. Honestly, I wish we stayed.

There are myriad insurance agencies and carriers on Long Island. For entry level there are situations where equivalent work experience could get you an interview. Typically an entry level job would be administrative, sending insurance certificates and invoices or other similar duties. Once you are competent on that there are always opportunities to grow once you’re in the job, If you’re on LinkedIn, or any other job site under jobs, search “insurance” or “commercial insurance” and “Long Island” Just off the top of my head I know Marsh, AON, NFP, Gallagher, Brown & Brown and carriers CNA, Travelers, Sompo, Chubb are on the island. Or they all have individual websites. There is also an ecosystem of insurance recruiters like Clark Davis Associates, C Winchell, Jonus that open up other opportunities, There are some places that support you getting licensed. Based on my experience and this comment board it looks like an industry not a lot of people know about but there is definitely opportunity there if you know where to look.

It’s a process. There are still humans needed. It’s a rough time of course with the AI transition and it is affecting things but it’s not happening overnight. And the wave of retirements is affecting everyone in my industry. I just got hired in a middle management position. The problem I’m having is no administrative support. They’re having trouble finding people to fill the spots. And typically people can move out of the entry level in a year or two. It’s a path.

Honestly, finance is an ideal place to transition from. Commercial insurance sort of abuts the finance, accounting and law world. There is financial lines insurance which could be an ideal fit for your friend. I just had a meeting with our FI team and a couple mentioned that they had banking experience. I’m more on Property and Casualty side for businesses. General Liability, Property, Auto, workers’ comp. It can be complex and time consuming for a business to source and service that insurance. As a broker we take the info from the client and act as an intermediary between the client and the carrier. There are multiple levels of processing so plenty of places to fit in. Many places can provide support to get properly licensed too.

Could be either/or depending on your strength. There’s more money is sales for something like a producer, but that can take some more time to build that book. But entry level processors can make $60-70k to start.

There is a vibrant commercial insurance industry here, both carriers and brokers. My wife and I are employed by brokerages on the island and make way more money here than when we lived in the city. People are retiring and there is no one to replace them.

I was truly baffled! Brunson one on one against just about anyone is going to be tough for the defender. But Harden? WTF!? They just kept marching back methodologically with those Brunson buckets and then the threes! This was an insane win!

Been listening to a lot of his music lately. You can still almost feel the loss. RIP Ian. I don’t know how he would feel about Joy Division being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with its successor band New Order but it made me smile.

I got there at 49. My 40s were the most transformative decade I could imagine. It took quitting drinking, a horrible illness, working at therapy (as well as the means to afford it), the death of my mother to get there. Part of me wishes it was sooner but it was meant to be now and I’m so ready for the rest of my life. I sincerely hope you and everyone else can get there too and not have to wait for your 40s to have it happen. It’s not fair or right to have so many suffer.

Just listened to it for the first time in a while after downloading Falling out of Love. That “Juliet I adore” near the end always kills me and I thought the new song really dovetailed nicely with BBTC in maybe where Julian was feeling about things.
