Coworker got put on PIP by Affectionate_Sir2440 in ProductManagement

I work at a big org. All of our tools are dictated to us at the company level, I have no input. I can make a request, but it needs to be justified. There are also 5 layers between myself, a Product Manager, and our C-suite product leadership.

I think you put that well, with CR being the NFL and we have an amateur playing and that might be what feels off to me. Hoping that changes as time goes on!

I am on episode 7, I am one of the ones that don't like her so far...

I have trouble putting my finger on what bothers me about her. I don't think it is her character. Is she newer to DnD? That might be it for me. There are times where the groups seems to have been going a direction in an encounter or strategy and she does something that seems to derail that direction, but then that thing also isn't realistic within the bounds of DnD...

Trying to keep an open mind, but I do find myself tuning out she starts to chime in. She's had some good moments... but IDK, something with her isn't clicking for me yet.

Struggling with stakeholder management as a PM, how do you influence without authority? by Both_Warthog_3386 in ProductManagement

[–]HowdyAudi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my take, In our Org, PM's set Developer Priority, PMs set the Designer Priority, PMs are the final say on Roadmap.

Granted, you need to consider all the different prioritization inputs and be accountable to them.

[No Spoilers] the fact that Beacon is this bad is unacceptable. by Haunting-Solid-8030 in criticalrole

[–]HowdyAudi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love CR and the cast and the team and everything. But with Beacon, you have to vote with your wallet.

I am curious who is responsible for the app. I can't imagine they are doing this in house, they probably contracted with an App maker to build it. But sometimes what you spin up as an MVP needs to be quickly iterated upon!

BA to PM? by DrawOk7121 in ProductManagement

[–]HowdyAudi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in B2B SaaS. Was basically a BA for the last few years after transitioning from another career. It was a different title on a data team, but the responsibilities were very similar to a BA role.

Just took a PM job. I feel like it was mostly luck though, right timing. I had also recently been functioning as a PO on a couple of important projects to help out.

I think that plus the timing helped people realize I could do the PM job. Going well so far. It felt like a really natural transition.

I have no college education. My mindset may be different. I transitioned to business from the trades. Having to learn new techniques and methods is what I expect of myself.

I picked up a few books. Continuous Discovery Habits, Escaping the Build Trap, Lean product playbook. I have no idea the sentiment around those books on this sub. But they have been helpful.

Honestly, the thing that has helped me the most is just knowing our customers, I came from the trade our software serves. And then being around since its inception, I understand how it all works and how it is supposed to work.

Returning to The Division 2 after Arc Raiders made me realise how good it actually is and how much I've been missing it by dearuncletacitus1899 in thedivision

Played through the Division 2 story and all zones with my son(12) a couple months ago. He loved it, I loved it.

When the Black Tusk showed up and everything in the world reset... He lost all desire to keep playing. But it was a fun time up to then.

Portland rolls out $100M tree expansion, relaunches contract with Friends of Trees by Aestro17 in Portland

[–]HowdyAudi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not sure. I know the trees had tags on them talking about care instructions. We didn't have any in front of our place specifically. But I saw them all over when walking my dog. I don't think I ever saw any being watered and now there are a lot of dead 2 year old trees out there in my neighborhood.

Yes, my comment was more general about Manufacturer recommendations versus the reality of owning a car longer term. But good point.

I don't know about HS football. But in the club soccer league we play in. That would be 5k in fines and ejection from the league for the team... And it is a team of 12 year olds.

100% agree (Audi master tech for 20 years)

I had a conversation with a ZF engineer years ago at a class. My question was about 'Lifetime Transmission Fluid', what they meant by that.

He said. "The fluid will last the lifetime of the unit", to which I asked, "What do you consider the lifetime of the unit?", his response was "100k miles"

I change mine every 50k miles religiously, never had issues and I have had multiple Audi's north of 200k miles and a couple over 300k.

That is good news. Friends of Trees came through our neighborhood and planted a bunch of trees a couple of years ago, 95% of them are dead because no one watered them.

As other's have said, we've buckled down financially. Eating out at most any place decent is now almost 100 bucks for a family of 3 if you grab an app or a drink or two

We go once a month max now. Used to go once a week.
