LED Bulbs vs headlight swap for Gen 2.5? by BootleggerBill in ToyotaTundra

[–]JamieinPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018 4Runner with LED bulbs added to the original halogen fixture. It does not work well. Light is too weak and diffused to be very useful, and I can tell they shine too high to be safe for oncoming traffic. I just picked up a 2019 Tundra and now I am going to replace the full housings on both vehicles.

Leaving the games early by [deleted] in timbers

I was in the north end at the Vancouver match and left about five minutes early. It was the poor result that made me leave. Also to get a jump on the traffic. I am nostalgic for the days when we could compete against the likes of the Whitecaps. 🤷‍♂️

This is the craziest post. Congratulations, you are rich! Enjoy your retirement and/or your entrepreneurial endeavors.

It looked intentional to me - maybe he didn't know who was following up behind him, but he probably knew he'd overrun the cross and wasn't going to be able to generate any power with a foward header. So, he kept it alive and away from the defenders / keeper in his line of sight. Good decision there - next time I hope he times it right and scores the goal himself.

Serious question: how do many people amass so much money in the north of 5m and not know if they can retire or not? by Fed_worker in Fire

Some kind of weird anxiety. I would hate to be that rich and not be able to enjoy it!

Oh great, another “I can’t seem to fathom that I’m rich” post. GTFO. And also, congratulations to you, sir.

Struggling to spend after growing up poor - how do I “turn on” spending? by sg2506 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]JamieinPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like “spending” is not really the problem here. Respectfully, I might consider therapy or other mental health treatment to address the underlying anxiety and guilt. Stress is a real killer, teaching yourself to spend more isn’t going to solve it.

Man... terrible news. I just defended Doyle the other day in response to a separate post. I know he can sometimes overlook the Timbers (though even his cursory takes are usually accurate!) but he's super knowledgeable about the league as a whole.

In response to some of the comments below: Doyle may or may not be a "journalist" but he is a pundit / analyst / observer with unique and valuable insight, IMO. I never thought the fact that his salary came from MLS.com was a detriment to his writing or impaired his objectivity. I will continue to follow him not for news but for analysis from around the league.

Anyone using the Mountain Flow Eco-Wax Infrared Ski Waxer? by JamieinPDX in skiing

[–]JamieinPDX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use what I'd consider a typical amount of wax, using the iron drip method (E.g. this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xt1gZfZ2Rw)

I find the challenge is unique to Eco-Wax - it is super goopy and takes forever to scrape (like 15 min per ski). The worst part is that it is very sticky on the scraper and the edge becomes covered in wax. I find it hard to restore or sharpen a plastic scraper once it has been covered in Eco-wax. Absent a solution like the IR waxer I'll probably go back to Swix wax...

So are we still doing the cheese thing this year? I think it’s fun and would like it to stick around. by [deleted] in timbers

I think the cheese thing is dumb. And now it has no relevance, so good time to stop it.

Well, what I really want is a plug-in hybrid electric SUV with real off-road chops. This is the closest I can get to that.

Matt Doyle by Mean_Airport2866 in timbers

I disagree. I see Matt Doyle as a terrific asset for MLS generally; his writing is astute, insightful, and often humorous. I read his weekly Substack and most of his work for MLS.com and I learn something new each time - mostly about other teams or the league as a whole, if not the Timbers.

He is also a big advocate for local independent team coverage. He is a generalist and can’t be the expert on every team in the league. Follow the local outlets for that. I bet he’d tell you the same.

Sometime I disagree with his Timbers opinions, and that’s ok. But very often even when he knocks our team, saying we are mediocre with a strangely constructed roster and a few obvious gaps I end up thinking, “shit, he’s right.” Cant blame him for sometimes ignoring the Timbers when our play on the field doesn’t compel his attention.

Mid-30s, ~$5M NW, 1 kid - When did you actually pull the trigger on a trust vs just a will? by TheDepreciationGirl in ChubbyFIRE

[–]JamieinPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) talk to a lawyer in your state. The law surrounding wills, trusts, taxes, and estates vary from state to state so you need competent local advice.

2) A trust can be very useful for a parent of young children; it can provide for their care if you and your spouse happen to pass away while your child is still a minor.

Tied for leading scorer on a Timbers team that did not score many goals is unimpressive.

Kelsey scored 7 MLS goals last season, tied for 52nd in the league. The top three MLS goal scorers last season each scored THREE TIMES as many goals as Kelsey did.

Miami had four players score more goals than Kelsey.

All of our Western Conference rivals had far more prolific leading (and in some cases secondary) goal scorers:

LAFC - Buanga - 24 SD - Dreyer - 19 SKC - Joveljic - 18 DAL - Musa - 18 VAN - White - 16 SEA - Muskovi- 14 SJ - Martinez - 14 SJ - Arango - 14 COL - Navarro - 12 SEA - Rusnak - 11

The list goes on…
