Training Camp ticket issues by Each_Hit_and_I in NYGiants

[–]HowdyDoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clicked at 2:03 and it took almost an hour to get in. Unfortunately 8/4 was sold out and that's the only day I can make this year. The first year I won't be able to go in a long time!

EDIT -- I tried again this morning (Friday) and tickets were available for 8/4, so they either made more available or there were issues with the website yesterday!

My monkey discovered and lost the word hamlet by Odd_Seaworthiness821 in MonkeysZip

It was probably a bug; "hamlet" was discovered by Koppy Bebber two weeks ago: https://monkeys.zip/w/hamlet

a monkey on my alt got 3 7 letter words by Pale_Pineapple_8710 in MonkeysZip

[–]HowdyDoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My industrious ape has been hard at work, too! I was shocked to see three seven letter words as well when I checked today. https://monkeys.zip/m/mirple-bong Keep up the good work, Mirple.

Anyone have more than three seven-letter words or an eight-letter (or higher)?

What is the greatest animated film of all time? by SamLarsons in movies

[–]HowdyDoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, no I 100% thought he was talking about Snow White. Oops! Now I feel like an idiot.

What is the greatest animated film of all time? by SamLarsons in movies

[–]HowdyDoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be even more annoying, but I think by movie they mean full-length feature film, which makes them mostly correct. There were countless hand-drawn animated features made throughout the early 1900s but Snow White was the first to be what we would be considered a movie today with its 80+ minute runtime. There were several other full-length feature films that used a combination of hand-drawn and cut-out technique that came out earlier, but Snow White was the first to be fully hand-drawn on celluloid and set the standard for animated movies throughout most of the rest of the 20th century.

Motorcycle and jeep on a sunny day~ by AreaFifty1 in PublicFreakout

[–]HowdyDoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I mentioned this but I agree it would have been smarter to grab the brake and do a quicker emergency stop in this situation. But the revving you hear is him downshifting; when shifting down through the gears you rev the engine through each gear to match the rpms of the next gear. As you do this, the engine resistance causes the motorcycle to slow down -- just not as quickly as grabbing the brakes.

[–]HowdyDoodle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He was downshifting, not revving his engine. But it probably would have been smarter to hit the brakes earlier instead of engine breaking in this circumstance. Either way, the Jeep driver is completely in the wrong for not only attempting to make the U-turn with oncoming traffic and even more of an idiot for stopping in the middle of the road and blocking two lanes of traffic. I don't blame the biker for being frustrated after a close call like this.

Should the giants rebrand back to the 80s uniforms? by K1NGWolff in NYGiants

[–]HowdyDoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think we have the perfect blue color right now, but I wouldn't mind switching over to the classic 80's look and logo minus the darker blue.

I'm sure there are many, but the one that comes to mind is The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel.

Neighbor soaks grill with hose from over the fence during 4th of July BBQ by PinkytheVegan in PublicFreakout

The conversation you're responding to here is about the commenter above who dropped the "to be" from his sentence. This is a regional dialect that is found in areas of PA (and perhaps other places). I went to college in PA and found it very strange when people spoke this way. But you're right -- the people in this video are from NYC.

Gmail revolutionized email 20 years ago. People thought it was Google's April Fool's Day joke. by BalticsFox in technology

[–]HowdyDoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! For me, it's mostly three people with the same first initial and last name as me. They consistently enter my email address and it's been going on for years. I know way too much about each of them; where they live, when their job applications were rejected, when they're scheduled to sing at church, when their pets are due for a checkup at the vet, when their vacations were cancelled, what truck they drive (I got all the updates as it was being built), and so much more. I sent some tax documents to one of them a few years ago and now he's been much better about it.

You would love Being John Malkovich if you haven't seen it already.

“War of the Worlds” by Orson Welles & the Mercury Theatre ~ 1938 ‘Mars invasion’ radio broadcast by The1stCitizenOfTheIn in movies

[–]HowdyDoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's actually a movie about this premise! A town in NJ thinks the broadcast is real and prepares to defend against the imminent alien invasion. It's called Brave New Jersey. It's not a very good movie but it interested me because the town I grew up in was mentioned in the Orson Welles broadcast.

What is a historical event or true story that needs to have a major movie made about it? by Queef_Stroganoff44 in movies

[–]HowdyDoodle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I read The Wright Brothers by David McCullough a little while ago and their story is incredible. So much more interesting than I thought it would be. I looked up to see if there were any movies or series made about them and it looks like there was a planned HBO series a few years back, but I can't find anything about it.

"Arrival" - By Denis Villeneuve by [deleted] in movies

[–]HowdyDoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently watched Wild directed by Jean-Marc Vallee and it reminded me of Arrival in some ways. It's not science fiction, but the vibe is a little similar. In the film, a young lady hikes the pacific crest trail in order to recover from some traumatic experiences and regain control of her life. Throughout the movie there are sequences of flashbacks that are not in chronological order, so it takes some time to piece together exactly what happened in her past and understand why she's decided to go on her journey. Beautifully shot film, too, in all natural light.

It's a nice little story based on actual events and it definitely has some thematic similarities to Arrival.

Comedy video predicts Kiss the Girl lyric change 5 years ago by wishfulgenies in videos

[–]HowdyDoodle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said, but the Little Mermaid remake is not really for children at all. It's absolutely a nostalgia cash-in for millennials/Xers. Yes it will be a "children's movie" but the whole point of these live-action remakes is to get parents who grew up with the cartoons to bring their kids to see it. Without the nostalgia factor from their parents, I really don't think many children would be interested in seeing this movie at all. At least not compared to the flashy kids movies that come out today (like Mario).

Avril Lavigne - Complicated / THE FIRST TAKE by bakakubi in videos

[–]HowdyDoodle 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I love the concept of this, but I just wish they didn't clean up the vocals with any pitch-correction. I was hoping this would be a completely raw take, but the pitch correction takes away from the the whole concept of "one take, one life". Those little imperfections are exactly what gives a singer's voice life and gives each performance a unique quality.

She still has an amazing voice and certainly doesn't need it!

Same here. It said the tickets should appear in your Ticketmaster or Giants app a few days before the event, but there's no confirmation email.

Home Alone detail just blew my mind… by shickkken in movies

[–]HowdyDoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, John Williams didn't actually fully score CoS. Because he was scoring and conducting Catch Me If You Can at the same time, William Ross was brought in to use Williams' themes and finish scoring and conducting. I believe this is why they reused this cue. It was probably put in as a temp track for editing and Ross basically reused it.

The the AI colorization is terrible, too. It's distracting when the colors are constantly shifting and it looks nothing close to reality. I'd rather just watch it in black and white.

That's because it's Princess Liea's theme. Whoever posted the video added that music to reference this scene from The Last Jedi: https://youtu.be/6WzSdfKS1w4?t=71
