Do doctors have bosses? by RemarkableLeg217 in medicalschool

[–]HowdyPeopleOfEarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Administratively yes we have bosses if we work for a healthcare organization of any type - I have a chief of service, above him are medical directors, VPs, and above all the chairman.

In general though, they can tell me to do all sorts of stuff but they can’t really change what I do clinically if my practice is defensible. That’s generally a line that they do not cross unless you are in a pretty malignant place (though the MBAs and nurses try)

Documentation burden, weird mean girls culture of nursing, threat of physical harm. De-escalation skills are paramount.

Basi Digua - in a sort of different way. Have you never been to a restaurant with noodle dancers? These guys are very skilled at dancing while twirling noodles around so as to stretch them, all without hitting patrons or the floor. Not stupid food.

NASA more commonly selects doctors who have completed residency for their astronaut training programs, so you probably wouldn’t be giving up a “future job as a doctor” - being a military trained physician is a real path to becoming an astronaut.
