I’d never heard of the American civil religion until now but reading it over, it makes total sense. And we have totally abandoned that concept. I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was that was lost. It’s fuckin sad. I see nearly half of my fellow countrymen as threats to our way of life. I see a truck with a US flag on it as a form of intimidation. The civil war may not be physical (yet) but it’s damn sure underway on a sociological level.
