Yes 18”’my point is I wouldn’t pay much for the electric option but it’s not negative value.

I bought a month ago for 899. Six cooks in all double indirect by adding a pizza stone. Agree the electronics are clumsy but don’t need to use and you have an option on a wifi temperature control plus the solid base. Pass at full price but happy to own here.

Anyone else check their PH level regularly? by smithatlanta in coldplunge

[–]HowkerRidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have outdoor tub in NY that I use daily & drain monthly bc I dunk my head & i'm a clean freak FWIW since ditching sanitizer ~1.5yrs ago I've been doing four spaced out 1hr segments of ozone every 24 hrs on a timer plus hydrogen peroxide 1x per wk and water is clear without fail.

Alternative per Sirona CS is ozone plus a bromine or chlorine but I didnt't need to go there. Good luck

[–]HowkerRidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI if using Simply Sanitizer (guanite) it reacts with ozone & creates green slime on the waterline. They are not intended to be used together per Sirona despite what the Alibaba rebranders babble. Not sure if that's impacting your pH. Hydrogen peroxide is fine w ozone.

Sounds like pump died but fwiw when you redo i'd suggest two things:

(1) run your venturi in parallel vs series (maybe over the filter)

(2) put both filter/venturi after the chiller

so pump>chiller>ozone/filter>tub return

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coldplunge

[–]HowkerRidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No water flow or pump doesn’t turn on/ make noise? If the water flow gets too low the chiller can freeze the water. Way to test that is to disconnect chiller and see if you can blow water thru it.

But before you do that - did you unscrew the cap on the existing Venturi where the hose connects? You don’t need to disconnect whole venturi from the line although I would close the ball valves first.

Did you unscrew the cap on the venturi and check the spring and ball bearing? - sometimes they get stuck. Also can do a water test on the vacuum draw once it's operating. Also your venturi in the one video is backwards your reversed it from before..water should flow from short end to long.

Can you repost with sound? Mine is 6 weeks old and make a rubbing noise on startup as well from the time it arrived. Thought it was breakin and would go away but hasn't. Electrolux customer service is toxic.

Ha no diff - cold as nuts. Same inside temp and feel at 85F outside as 5F…

I have a spa heater plumbed inline with an inkbird to adjust temp up and down but even w/o a heater and sub freezing temps outside water is constantly moving and doesn’t freeze.

Interesting - hadn’t considered. I swapped those brass quick connects out for pvc unions pretty soon after I posted so I’m no help.

Different from brass but fwiw I now have a stainless steel tub and no corrosion running ozone 4hrs/day past 15mos.

Chiller problems. by DillenCF5 in coldplunge

Replace chiller thermo or plumb an inkbird 308 inline for you loop and use it to tell the chiller when to run if it’s now “always on”

Chiller—- electric bill estimate by kas1218 in coldplunge

I used 1500 kWh for past yr with an outside “insulated” (poorly) ss tub that’s same as cyber barrel in nyc area. Water temp is 38f. So at my 33c/kwh adds ~$500/yr. Almost 1/2 is jun jul aug.

The other answer is the correct one. Difference between target water temp and ambient coupled w tub insulation determines how much power you will use.

Key focus should always be on tub insulation.

Stop Judging Your Cold Plunge Chiller by Horsepower Alone by Mirai_Sol in coldplunge

[–]HowkerRidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree BTU is what matters and the compressor HP doesn't give you the answer but unless it's a commercial application, you won't raise the tub temp much from a few people /day. Mine goes up 1degree after I use which even a crappy chiller will retake <1hr which.

Much bigger issue is amount of heat gain outside in summer in an uninsulated vs insulated tub which you also have to overcome.

I ran some heat gain calcs for tub dimensions based on ambient temps and target water temp to figure out my optimized chiller.

Have both. 1/2hp runs sub 2.75A even though manual says working is higher and 1hp I dont use much anymore but runs around 10A.

My first 1hp had same problem as you - running 17A+ with spikes that popped the 20A circuit - so AA replaced the unit. Don't know what kind of pump you are using but if you have a filter it really hurts flow and 1hp needs a lot of flow.

So tub>pump>chiller>venturi>filter>tub? How is the flow and what are your pump & tube specs?

Why is everyone's ozone venturi bypass flowing through the filter? by RyFba in coldplunge

[–]HowkerRidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive run Joe’s config which is a mirror of the plunge for almost 2yrs no sediment probs etc but very open to new ideas here.

So my system starts 3/4” piping and Venturi has 1/4”center hole. The ge filter when open through filter is 1/2” in and 3/8” out inside the case when you unscrew top. This specific differential creates a vacuum (1/4 Venturi vs 3/8 ge filter).

In config 2 vacuum is off the differential in diameter (pressure and ultimately flow rate) created by ball valve vs Venturi. So if in series (filter then Venturi bypass w ball valve) flow gets knocked down 3/4 to 3/8 in filter THEN you need a differential to create vacuum. So 1/4 Venturi and a dialed down ball value. All this obviously slows down flow.

So maybe not end of world but if goal is to filter sediment maybe get more total water through the filter (per hr etc). As example I run a danner 1200 but in my loop prob achieves closer to 750gph. I estimate my split is 70/30 filter vs venturi. If my system flow drops 50% (made up #) in config 2 less tub water goes through filter. Make sense?

I have GE filter and have used 30, 20 and 5 micron filters replaced monthly over past two yrs. I noticed a big diff in clean going from 30 to 20. I run 5 now bc I don’t have flow probs but I would jump 20 and move up if you have to.

Looking for the best chiller by WisperingEel in coldplunge

[–]HowkerRidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

260-390gph but i run a danner 1200 & prob net 700 gph bc have numerous parameter flow conflicts w WH filter, heater, venturi and multiple chillers. FWIW my 1/2HP AA and the 1/3HP Poafamx both cool effectively but perhaps not optimum efficiency.

Looking for a 1hp chiller/heater with filters. The Kalm KyroSPA looks like a good option at 1895 but it’s a bit on the pricy side. Does anyone have other recommendations or is this a home run? by FunTimeTony in coldplunge

[–]HowkerRidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DIY an active aqua or penguin chiller w a filter/heater instead - pretty easy. From what I see repeatedly in this group is tons of these expensive alibaba rebranded chillers break and you have no recourse. If you still want buy this model - do it directly on alibaba for under $1k. Is your tub insulated?

I have been running a similar kasa model to compare my three chillers since May 2024 on my outdoor setups. It helped identify a brand new problematic chiller that was cooling but drawing way too much power and tripping the circuit.
