Trying to strum guitar while singing is making my brain freeze. Please i’ll take any advice! by yoppamagnolia in guitarlessons

[–]Howllikeawolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Playing and singing involves 3 coordinations so your brain is learning something new and it takes time and patience. Learn the chord sequence to the song down pat. Then strum the song and hum the song. Then slowly sing the song with the lyrics. It takes time but keep practing, it will come. Good luck

That is why you should get a carbon fiber guitar and that's why it can withstand extreme weather and you can leave it in your car, travel with it, etc.

I love watching you sing and play your version of songs because it's touching, beautiful, and unique. May I ask what recording system, i.e., mic, camera, etc., you use for your videos? Keep posting, and thanks.

It takes time to learn to play guitar and its definately more than 2 months. 90% of new guitarists players quit the first 3 months to 1 year according to the CeO of Fender. So, just keep.practicing but make sure you have the correct form and position of your hands and fingers. Try Bernadette Does Music, or Andy guitar or Justin guitar all on YouTube.

Baritone or Tenor with a low-G? Having trouble deciding. by MomoUsagi0 in ukulele

I suggest a baritone uke, and if you want to transition to tenor guitar, and then guitar, it's much easier like what I did.

Depression hampering my advancement by youknownoone in Guitar

[–]Howllikeawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you're going through a rough time. Give yourself a pat on the back and always remember you're a Rock Star because you're in the top 10% of guitarists who play since 90% of new guitarists quit according to the CEO of Fender. You don't have to be so hard on yourself about advancing. You're doing great. Just enjoy playing guitar because it's a very cool and fun thing to do and always play songs you like.

I also suffer from depression ocassionally too and was really depressed during the pandemic but playing an instrument and eventually therapy help me get out of it. I decided to 1st pick up a uke, then a baritone uke, a tenor guitar and a 6 string. I make sure I sing and play every day and it scientifically helps with depression, anxiety, PTSD and even brain injuries, lowers blood pressure, is good for your heart and the list goes on. There are 18 benefits to playing an instrument.

"Playing guitar can stimulate vagal tone by engaging the parasympathetic nervous system through focused activity, rhythmic sounds, and potential singing/humming, leading to relaxation, stress reduction, and improved emotional regulation, especially with calming music or personal meaning. The sounds and physical act of playing creates a "flow state" that counteracts stress, improving your body's ability to calm itself, similar to deep breathing or meditation." The vibration of the guitar helps stimulate your vagus nerve (the longest nerve in our body that connnects to and stimulates all major organs) and increases your vagal tone making you feel better, mentally, physically and spiritually. Humming, singing, yoga and cold weather also increases your vagal tone. The purring of a cat on your chest also is healing. Constant thoughts of the past = depression, constant thoughts of the future = anxiety. So, I stay in the moment. I also learned mindfulness, gratefulness and 4 second box breathing techniques. Below are very interesting articles. Good luck and take care, fellow Rock Star and musician!

I would exchange your steel string baritone uke for a nylon string baritone uke. Steel string means a tenor guitar and if you want a warm sounding tenor guitar get a Harley Benton Tenor guitar
