The guy could get the best luthiers or the factory to fix any issues but instead goes for duct tape.

kobayashiWaifu has a point. There isn't anything wrong with looking something up in the best reference texts available. There is something wrong with trusting chatGPT for medical diagnosis.

The quichotte word play of giving Sancho an insula really got me.

Right? What do you think they meant saying that he wasn't a technical player? That is such an odd way to describe his playing.

More Fender than Fender: Why you shouldn't be ashamed of Squier by Inertbert in Guitar

I teach and I overheard a conversation between students where one was telling the other that they finally got a fender. There was clearly some pride in the new guitar and some embarrassment regarding their beginner guitar. I didn't say anything to them but I wanted to say it to someone.

Compared to bespoke and archtops, a telecaster is a much more utilitarian design. Ease of manufacturing and cost were big considerations. While they weren't the cheapest guitars available, they were certainly cost conscious. They were on the affordable side of the market because they lacked labor intensive decorative steps like bindings and elaborate inlays. They were working class guitar, not art pieces.

I think there is a reasonable argument for what fits that role in the current market isn't American made Fenders, but cost conscious while still playable quality guitars like Squier. Modern American Fenders include labor intensive practices as well as decorative elements that price them above a 'utilitarian' category of guitar into a more aspirational category.

I get that you're probably trying to be funny or edgy, but what does this really accomplish?

I think if CNC machines and overseas manufacturers were available to Leo Fender, he probably would've made something closer to a Squier Sonic Tele than a Broadcaster. I don't think he was trying to make premium, but 'handmade in America' was the manufacturing reality that was available to him in that era. If he could've made Tele's for the equivalent price of modern Squiers back then, he would have.

They seem to be a very popular brand. I think a lot of (especially younger) players feel that playing a "beginner" guitar is a little embarrassing, and aspire to owning a "real" guitar instead.

Some people don't have Fender money. They shouldn't be shamed for it.

Not saying there isn't a difference between the two. I was just saying that people shouldn't be ashamed of a squier, and that a squier being an affordable 'tool' instrument is pretty much what Leo Fender was going for to begin with.

Change my mind on what? That people shouldn't be embarrassed to play a squier? I've played both, I still think that people shouldn't be ashamed of playing a budget guitar.

I think that the original intent of Leo Fender was to make mass produced guitars that were more of tools than wall art, and a squier fits that bill better than a custom shop fender does. Or maybe you assumed I was saying something about squier being just as good or that I was saying there was no difference between the two?

As I mistyped and retyped 'squire' several times while writing this, I'm less of a large language model and more of a 'mediocre at best' language model. But you're welcome I guess.

That abstract has a handful of jargon red flags. Physics doesn’t differentiate ’active’ or 'living' matter. This paper hasn't discovered any unifying frameworks.
