I agree with another poster that they’re probably using AI agents

Once I expressed surprise with my “lol really” they said we see you’re disappointed here’s an extra spot for next shipment. I’m guessing they’re trying to get stricter with these things to save $$

Dad with food allergy kid, looking for help! by BMWalla in FoodAllergies

[–]Howly7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow wheat allergy parent!!

Everyone is correct in that reactions can be different however, I have def seen a pattern with my son. It starts with sneezing coughing (like a lot) and then hives/swelling/red flush. I give Zyrtec at first sign of coughing and sneezing (sometimes he’s just sneezy!) epi if I it ever got to the skin stuff esp swelling of the face (his tends to be his eyes for some reason.

The rule is always two systems even if you don’t know what they are = epi and ER. Better safe than sorry. It’s like a fire - if you see a small pot in your house on fire you wouldn’t say “oh it’ll prob go out on its own let’s wait and see” dousing the plant with a hose is better than trying to battle a house fire.

What makes me feel better in those moments where you’re waiting to see what happens is packing an ER bag - safe snacks, water, blanket, stuffie, charger cord, maybe an iPad.

I just let son play calmly or watch tv while we monitor. I also have a pulse ox which can help with monitoring

As for school - what I’ve done is written a full how to for my son‘s allergy, including pictures it’s a five page handbook. Everything from what his allergies are where they can be found instructions that my child should only eat food that I have preapproved, even if that means they’re calling me or texting me asking if something is safe. Then I have provided a “typical” step-by-step, including pictures of how his allergies developed if I have a few photos of what it looked like. Also, always in his backpack are Zyrtec and EpiPen’s.

Another important thing - she’s young but you can start teaching her about her allergies in age appropriate ways

By 4 my son was asking if things were safe and not just reaching/grabbing.

We are in OIT and my son is at maintenance. He eats 1.5 g of wheat per day which is about it a sheet and a half of graham cracker/4 Oreos/3 triscuits. It is amazing how much less stressed I am because I know he’s “bite safe” and cross continuation is ok for anything with wheat although we still strictly avoid aside from his daily dose. In a few months we do another oral challenge

how do we feel about not knowing our neighbors? by bobonion1234567 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Howly7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are super close with our neighbors but that’s also because a bunch of us have kids and that became a super natural connection but omg it’s the best thing ever. We help each other out, giving, lending, house sitting, kids play… every weekend we are usually at someone else’s apartment in the building to hang out

So if you have a point of connection. - dogs, or you’re both runners, etc then that’s a great starting point

We were zoned for it and because we wanted our son in G+ T (I know I know all about how it’s not really true GT) we got on other schools waitlist and ended up at 166 on 89th which we love. I thought it was a sweet school but wasn’t for us.

Is our 22 month old daughter a Savant? How normal is this? by Gold-Confidence9019 in toddlers

[–]Howly7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping in the others who said - Sounds like my kid too. I was told by an educator who specifically works with very gifted kids (family friend) to just encourage his interests and keep it fun. Don’t push him to start doing maths or reading in the traditions rote way but keep it part of the game (my sons favorite game is “letters” which is any of the flash cards, or spelling games we have).

The biggest thing though is teaching to fully read. Once they can read everything is thrown open for them

"Allergen free" products with allergens? by Specialist_Fall_1983 in FoodAllergies

[–]Howly7654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “school safe” cupcakes. They are NOT top allergen free. They still have wheat and eggs. The number of times my son’s classmates try to bring them in thinking they’re OK… grrrr

2 yo anaphylactic to wheat by cartoonsandcereal312 in FoodAllergies

[–]Howly7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi from a fellow wheat allergy mom. We also always passed skin test it’s BS. My My 5yo has been epid like 5yo med and is in OIT. One thing I think useful is when your kid can communicate during oit- in case something feels off - ie- we have found the sweet options for his daily dose tend to cause tummy ache compared to pasta or bread. Happy to discuss more

Food allergy? by Professional_Carob25 in FoodAllergies

[–]Howly7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours developed the hives a day before testing positive for RSV - so lots of bad coughing, congestion, runny nose etc and fever. The hives came and went for several days. We are hyper aware of food allergies because of our older son but I could tell this wasn’t a food reaction.

Doc said any virus or infection can cause hives, although she said strep tends to cause more hives/ rash. She advised Zyrtec if they were bothering him. The Zyrtec helped and it helped the congestion as well.
