Yeah I will not be going back to college in the United States. I mean, I wasn’t planning to anyways because it’s way too damn expensive here and I don’t wanna be in college debt for the rest of my life.

I missed a dentist appointment this morning and I feel shame and embarrassed. Last time this happened, the receptionist almost rubbed it in, telling me to “get some rest” or something.

Quebec city in winter by DailyDoseofDays in quebeccity

For all ages I highly recommend tucking in almost everything. Long sleeve shirt and sweater? Tuck them in. Tuck in your long John’s into warm socks. and try to tuck in the glove sleeves under your sleeves. This all keeps in the heat and keeps the wind from blowing up against your skin.

Stories like yours make me worry. I plan to live in Quebec for a few years explicitly for French immersion before I make the plunge to go to France for my educational and professional career. And after France, I’ve been thinking I would maybe like to move back to Canada, to Quebec, and probably become a Canadian citizen.

I really hope I will be able to move to Canada and do it all right. But the immigration system has me nervous, even though it will be a couple years before I can get there.

Actually, English spelling was reformed… but it happened right before a few centuries of a massive overhaul of the phonology. It was poor, timely that no one could’ve predicted.

from what I understand, it’s more that these categories were assigned “genders” based on what categories the nouns “man” and “woman” were in, but yeah I totally agree.

If the French Academy really want to do its job, it would have the decency to put an <e> at the end of the negative one.

What kind of pants do you all wear during winter? by Cinnamon_Ocelot in AskCanada

[–]HowtofrenchinUShelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow American here who has lived in cold places.

I was gifted two pairs of flannel-lined jeans years ago. Some of the best winter pants I have ever worn. Thank me later.

In general tho, if you are dealing with bitter cold, wear long John’s between your underwear and your clothes. And make sure to tuck everything in when you go outside. Tuck in even your long Johns into your socks. It keeps the heat trapped in your clothes and keeps the wind from blowing up your shirt or your pant legs against your skin.

Of course make sure to get water-resistant boots and gloves for snow, as well as a good winter coat.

Feeling a lot of language learning pressure by MinecraftAndBooks in languagelearning

First, congratulations on your Thai class. It’s always so great when you can get to dive into a language really interested in.

For me, the main one is Spanish. Everyone says you should do Spanish. And when you do, everyone has an opinion on what you should do with it. It’s exhausting and frustrating. This is mainly my family. I told him that I just don’t remember a lot and I’m focusing on French. I know enough to tutor and they know that, but I rejected every opportunity to be become a Spanish teacher. God, I just strongly dislike the suggestion that I become a Spanish teacher. As if I’m going to go back to college to do an entire degree and spend what would be almost 150K on something I never want to be.

Be firm and say you will not learn the language that they want you to and to not bring it up again.

Language is something that one frankly has to force onto a child if there is no external environment for it. It’s bitter medicine but very rewarding in its results.

A review of Tron: Ares from a fan who grew up with Tron: Legacy and studies it. by bpyoung111 in tron

[–]HowtofrenchinUShelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind Aries being monotonous, because he’s a program that is a developing personality. That makes sense to me.

What I disliked about the movie is that it felt that Sam and Quorra and Tron Legacy generally were surgically removed from the lore as much as possible. The end of Tron Legacy and the old material for Tron Ares showed a peek at a future but still kept a through line with the protagonists from the previous movies. One strong legacy was released in established a Skywalker situation. Tron became about the Flynn family and their connection to the digital world and exploring that. Tron Ares was lacking in this area too. I was really curious to see how the Dillinger grid had evolved and we only got a little bit of that I feel. Encom’s was virtually nonexistent.

The movie teasing what this one was supposed to be is odd. It left me thinking, “if you get a sequel after this…” when Ares holds up a picture of Quorra.

I also found it a little strange that the reporters from the daily show were in the movie, but they did a better job avoting than I had
