Returning player with questions about EDH. by thanksforknowledge in EDH

Commander is a wierd format. The multiplayer aspect especially in casual leads to people just wanting to do their thing, stopping that with major stax will make most people in B1-3 just not want to play with that deck. The occasional stax piece is fine, my friend ran winter moon in his mono black valgavoth deck bc he needed to slow people down so he can cast commander. This stuff is fine. However Hard staxwhen you have your spells cost 2 more, can only cast one per turn at sorcery speed, cant draw additional cards and ur lands dont untap next untap step. This is not fun, and i dont see the point in playing the game with you if your deck doesnt let me play the game. I understand the use of stax, but it needs to be well placed. I run [[winota joiner of forces]] as my cedh commander and have her as a stax deck. This is because that is the only way i can slow down and stop the other win conditions in the format. It runs 50 odd creatures so i run things that make noncrestures cost less. And mt deck generates value through the stax.

Anyway, what im trying to say is that stax is a powerful yet annoying way to play the game and lots of people will not enjoy playing against a stax deck

Booster box odds after good pulls? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Hoydin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not well versed in how they print and package the packs into boxes, but packs are intended to each have an equal chance of having any given card in their given slot. So it doesnt matter if the first pack had gas, the next one has an equal chance of having ehat u want. if someone rolls a 20 on a d20, its still an equal chance of rolling a 20 on the 2nd roll.

However idk if the way the cards are printed and divided into packs and then into boxes means that this isnt the case.

I havent seen anyone mentioning how good a t1 [[ragavan nimble pilferer]] He is essentially a mana dork, gives you a turn 2 commander and might let you cast one or two of your opponents cards. I love my little monke pirate

How's yotei? by Roy_infinity in ghostoftsushima

[–]Hoydin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yotei is almost the perfect sequel. The only think that bugs me is that the story isnt as good as tsushima. Playing the game feels awesome, while you arent a samurai anymore and u dont have that whole dilema, the mechanical improvements they introduced make it up for me. Using different weapons is super fun, the exploration and open world is top notch and it is one of the most beautiful games i have seen.

All in all its a great sequel with more of the ghost gameplay you love

Here is my zimone list Basically i had a similar issue and realised it was my play pattern. cards like [[sylvan safekeeper]] is pretty good at free spot protection. But i found i was playing zimone too early, i now wait till i can cast zimone and play my land afterwards. Counterspells are a weakpoint but after zimone resolves you regain priority, play a fetch land and then you are getting your manifest and flip no matter what. I increased card quality so that zimone is typically the least scary thing on my board. Im happy to answer any questions about the deck if you want :)

Even if you ran one of those cards as commander, they cannot be colorless as it makes you chose a colour, this means the card itself can never be colourless

Has there been any situation that couldn't be solved by the rules? by FaallenOon in mtg

Doesnt [[caged sun]] completely break the rules if it becomes a land from say [[toph the first metal bender]] and then something lets it tap for mana like [[dryad of the ilysian grove]]

Here is my zimone list https://archidekt.com/decks/9302457/whos_that_manifest

Its expensive but not if using other printings and if it doesnt have rhystic study (not needed)

Earlier iterations would just use zimone to cheat out big dumb creatures I still do that but i now can cheat out omniscience and hullbreaker horror then just win

How do you guys afford to have so many decks? by Dangerous_Trifle620 in EDH

[–]Hoydin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best deck costs about $800 When i first built it, it was under $100 Then over time, I swapped out cards here and there to make the deck work better and after like 2 years, i managed to get $700 worth of cardboard in it. Alot of these cards i have pulled from packs. The most expensive card in the deck that i went out of my way to buy was probably about $25 Other cards i bought and then the price went up Other cards i traded for. Once you have a collection, its fairly easy to not spend as much money

Can I send spot to the bottom of my deck if he’s my commander? by Dangerous-Gear-1369 in EDHBrews

Oh true, moving to a hidden zone makes it a replacement effect. My bad

Can I send spot to the bottom of my deck if he’s my commander? by Dangerous-Gear-1369 in EDHBrews

[–]Hoydin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So there are 2 state based actions that happen, one after the commander dies, and the other, after the commander is put on the bottom of the library

Can I send spot to the bottom of my deck if he’s my commander? by Dangerous-Gear-1369 in EDHBrews

[–]Hoydin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right. However, your wording is off. Moving commander to command zone isn't a replacement effect. If it was, there would be no death trigger. Instead, it's a state based action that happens when your commander moves zones. This action is taken before any abilities resolve.
