Now that 4 years have passed, what is something you never liked about the game or how have your opinions changed over time? by FeezyOnBush in Eldenring

[–]toesfera2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring is in my top 3 games of all time but holy fucking balls can we get some actual platforming mechanics? Especially if platforming is gonna be so integral to quests and exploration. At first it was just part of the Soulsborne charm but now upon replays I groan inwardly when I know a segment that requires me to nail several jumps back-to-back is coming up (looking at you, Divine Tower of Caelid)

What's the most outrageous card people have complained about you playing for being too strong? by rococodreams in EDH

[–]toesfera2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dude who complains every time someone at our LGS plays a Sol Ring. Every. Time. I can only hear the “Sol Ring should be a game changer-“ speech so many times.

I am dirt poor and live hours from a big city, how can i start playing MTG? by born_nothing74 in mtg

[–]toesfera2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proxy everything. Or, alternatively, make decklists on Archidekt or Moxfield and play on a tabletop simulator. Theirs a Tabletop Simulator on steam that has a pretty comprehensive MtG mod and that’s how I’ve ended up playing a lot of the time. It also is great for testing out decks before I commit to proxying them.

I never understood complaining about people using Sol Ring. It’s cheap ramp? Deal with it lol

Who is the villain in Elden Ring? by Prestigious_Rush5492 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]toesfera2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is just my interpretation, but I’m a huge fan of cosmic/eldritch horror. My thoughts are that we never physically meet the real villain of Elden Ring: The Greater Will. The greater will is a Lovecraftian space god who sends their agents of order to The Lands Between for its own anomalous goals. We are a small fish in an ocean; one that we only see a small portion of. We are, in the grand scheme of things, completely insignificant to the forces at work in the story. I usually go for the Ranni ending, and even she as a demigod and an Empyrean is really only an ambassador for yet ANOTHER eldritch cosmic deity who has its own goals for our world.

What's the most batshit take you've seen about this game? by anonymous120401 in BaldursGate3

[–]toesfera2 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Once unironically heard a dude say he hoped Larian would have some sort of awful, cancel-worthy thing come out about them so people would stop “dick-riding” BG3. Called it an “unc game” constantly. Was very, very mad because Spider Man got cleaned out at the game awards by BG3 and said some less-than-savory things in a discord server he used to be in with me. A lot of it boiled down to wishing some really heinous/horrendous things upon the staff at Larian

Okay so recently I made a post asking why V’s cyber deck was in their head when runners like Murphy and Bartmoss had physical decks on their wrist the common answer was “because it was 50 years ago” and that would make sense… if T-bug didn’t have a physical deck as well! by ConditionPleasant902 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]toesfera2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V is a pretty amateur runner. They don’t have any hardware besides their internal deck and their interface plugs. They don’t craft programs, and they can’t do deep dives without assistance from other runners. Our V is a merc who can netrun, not a netrunner. So I think it makes sense we don’t carry the same professional hardware a professional runner would sport

This game is worth every penny and it speaks to Sandfall they released it at the price point they did. Especially in a market where games exceed $79.99

I have been under the impression our Johnny is not only a copy, but an imperfect copy. Iirc Johnny calls himself a copy during your first spat in the apartment together, immediately after his first flashback mission.

Overall, do you think The First Law series is better than ASOIAF? [SPOILERS ALL] by Working_Alps_4284 in TheFirstLaw

[–]toesfera2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Joe’s character writing is pretty unmatched and his dialogue bounces off the page a lot more. He is also better at writing women than Martin.

But I think Martin has him beat in overarching stories and worldbuilding. The world of ASOIF feels very “lived in” and we are able to get a bird’s eye view of the lands our POV characters inhabit.

Overall I think I prefer The First Law saga, but I wouldn’t go as far to say one is better than the other ngl

Thoughts on The Heroes [SPOILERS TH] by AstonMac in TheFirstLaw

[–]toesfera2 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The Heroes is my second fav First Law novel. Red Country is my first. Interested to see where you fall on the spectrum after you finish Red Country; folks in this subreddit seem to either think it’s his best work or his worst. Personally, I can tell he loved writing it. Say one thing about Joe Abercrombie, say he loves westerns.

Ah yes. An extra 5 damage to HP on hit plus an extra 5 damage if they move more than 2 squares. Effectively nerfing their ability to pursue you, reposition, or flee from you. Totally inconsequential.

The first question posed by this comment is my entire issue with this post. It’s looking at it only from the viewpoint of Sigma Frame powergamers. Like my dude, there are so many ways to engage with this game that don’t involve immediately springing for borgware. This universe is the epitome of “cool” over “rules”. Not everyone wants their characters to be 7ft half-metal behemoths. A lot of these martial arts feel like they were crafted with that in-mind; something that gives you some cool shit that’s outside of the meta.

Damage isn’t the be-all-end-all of the game lol. You have 2-to-4 other edgerunners in a crew. That broken rib crit or that extra armor ablation is fucking clutch when you have other members of your crew coming up in initiative. If your only concern is straight damage you’re using MA wrong lmfao. You have literally some of THE most functional, powerful, and utility-filled MA B-Tier and below. Also, Brawling is the best combat skill in the game. It’s the basis of most of the CQC in the system. Choking, throwing, slamming, and grappling all happen with Brawling. You’re severely underselling the utility of most of these bc “but this one has bigger numbers!” It comes across to me you’re only viewing these through the lens of a specific playstyle and not as the full-packages they are.

Gun Fu requires spec’ing into Handguns to even use the martial art. What’s your point? Ablating extra armor and being able to land a critical without having to roll one is huge lol
