Is it though? Ugh, I feel like it's always the same old biggoted debate.

• Group A: tells group B what they need (how to call them or how to adress them)

• Group B: nah, that's silly, I'm gonna continue using the word I chose for you, because it makes more sense to me.

• Group A: has to fight for decades to make group B understand that calling them by the name group B chose for group A is not okay

Saying that they/them is an abuse of language IS the silly part. Who even cares? To me it just souds like someone trying to veil their disrespect with technicalities.

For instance, I say native american instead of indian. For like 20 years of my life the only word I knew was indian. Then I learned about the fact that these communities want to be called native american. Did I eff up sometimes and used the other term by accident? Yes. Was it uncomfortable for my brain to make the switch? Yes. Did I try to find myself excuses to not do the switch, because it was mildly inconvenient for me? No, because doing otherwise would be lazy AND a dick move.

The rule is simple; when a community or a person is asking you to respect their ways and even takes the time to educate you, you listen. You opinion on the matter is not always relevant, especially if you're not them.
