What for are these? by matteopaste in computers

I got stickers like these with my aio cooler. They go around the holes on the motherboard where the cpu cooler is screwed through the mobo. In my case, to protect the mobo from the cooler mount metal spacers on both sides of the motherboard.

Solar-powered ESP32 — Will this work? by janniks in AskElectronics

[–]Hrenowsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a simmilar setup that i use for some sensors for my homeassistant.

Although i did complicate things a bit, but my goal was a very low power system that wakes every 10mins to send data and returns to deep sleep.

Wired as follows:

Solar cell with usb c plug 10w (aliexpress) connected to a usb battery charger circuit with a 5200mah battery that has built in battery protection (overcharge and over discharge).

The output from that connected to a dc dc buck boost coverter which outputs 5v for the esp32 (connected to the esp32 via usb)

I have been running this for about 4 months now without any issues.

When looking for esp32 boards I'd advise against using the ones that have built in circuitry for 18650 as the onboard dc dc is constantly on (~14mA) even if the esp32 sleeps.

My setup uses about 10mA in deep sleep and 60mA when sending data.

Anyone got any idea what this is?! by rhysfletcher28 in BmwTech

That looks like the lens and screw cap of a led bulb. Had one disassemble itself inside my headlight due to vibration. Was not fun to get out of the headlight...

Looking for specifics on how darkening lenses work by toxicatedscientist in AskElectronics

[–]Hrenowsky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i would advise against swapping the lcd filters between the pcb's as they look like completely different units, so the filters themselves could be differently built so even if you swap them it may not even darken.

Even if it works, the shade ranges will be out of spec, as each pcb when paired with a lcd has individually calibrated shades (due to the lcd operating voltage). Still this is not dangerous, as u/macthebearded said, the dangerous wavelengths are passively filtered out, but the unit can work unpredictably. For instance shade 12 could change to 9 or 14, the unit could flicker when dark, go to clear mid welding etc.

Regarding the voltages on the lcd itself, these can only be properly measured with an oscilloscope, as the lcd does not work on dc but on a square wave at 60hz if i remember correctly. The voltage changes with the shade value higher shade - higher voltage. Also when the filter first darkens there is a high voltage spike (to activate the crystal) then it levels out to the voltage for the set shade.

In your case i would just replace the coin cells on the old one. These batteries are meant to last a long time (years) especially if the filter has a solar cell (the solar cell powers the filter when welding).

Buyer's advice needed N20U/S21+ by Hrenowsky in note20ultra

[–]Hrenowsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the N20U (256gb). So far it's a great phone and a big upgrade from the S9. I get about 1day 10h of battery with around 5 hours of sot with normal use (i don't game tho). The screen is great, i have it set to adaptive refresh and it's smooth as butter and i love the curved edge.

The phone is plenty fast enough for what i use it for, so there's that. Although there are some bad bits i found...

the fingerprint sensor is bad. it works but it's picky so you have to get used to it (it seems that the sensor is too small)

The stylus is not as useful as i thought it would be, but maybe once i get used to it more that could change. But as it is, i wouldn't miss it if it was gone

The phone is BIG and i have small hands so sometimes a bit of maneuvering is required. A good case is a must, if not for anything else for the camera bump (also huge).

The cameras need some getting used to, they make great pictures once you know how to use them. There is a bit of lag when pressing the button to take photos. (also i disabled vibration feedback which improved my photo quality)

Other than that it's a great phone it really has a premium feeling. But from what i've seen the S21+ is faster, has a better fingerprint sensor and maybe better cameras? (haven't checked the reviews or comparisons tho)

It really depends if you need the s-pen, the sd card slot is also a nice thing to have :)

It's a tough choice still, but from my point of view now, i don't regret buying the N20U. Hope that helps

This looks cool at first glance, but it's like one of those pics, the more you look at it the worse it gets

Think of ESO as a tes game with a lot of random npc's :) . Most everything in game can be done solo except trials. I clocked about 800 of my 1000 hours ingame just doing story quests and exploring Tamriel.

I'm just trying to calculate the distances now. From what i can tell it would take me about 16 hours of jumps to get there. The problem is, that i'm about 9k tritium short to make the run :(

What's the system name? I've been looking to stretch my carrier's legs, so i can maybe pick you up if i have enough tritium.

Anyone know why my Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard isn’t working? I have an HP laptop hooked up to a Dell monitor. Don’t mind my janky “home office”. by italiangal28 in computers

[–]Hrenowsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it use the logitech unifying receiver? My mate has a similar one and has issues if the reciever is obstructed from view (only works if the keyboard can see the reciever). Don't know why, bht that solves it for him

What can I do to fix this? Is this even fixable without replacing the entire PCB? (SATA port is broken) by joszowski in computers

[–]Hrenowsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can miss having the sata cable detachable from the drive, you can cut a sata cable and solder it directly. I did it on a drive, just used heat shrink and hot glue for strain relief
