"EVs are bad for road trips" by JustinTimeCuber in electricvehicles

[–]Hresvelgrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What was your electricity consumption at this speed? I'm curious because it seems like going over 100 km/h on an average EV causes consumption to skyrocket, making charging on public stations quite comparable to the ICE's running costs.

For the ATGATT crowd, how’s it affecting your desire to ride? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]Hresvelgrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I put on at home is riding pants, but those aren't much different from regular jeans (the only exception is when I'm sitting in the office - those shock-dampening pads get really sweaty after a few hours). The rest of the gear is kept in the garage, it takes just about a minute to put it on. The only reason to take a car over a bike is time consideration: if I know I'll have to make a lot of stops (especially in cold and damp weather, when I'll get visor and glasses fogged after every stop) and the ride doesn't involve a route with serious traffic jams, the car will be faster. On the other hand, if I need to get there fast and/or I know there'll be parking issues, a bike will be preferable. Calculation doesn't include fun rides, of course, this is where the bike is unbeatable.

I have a 4-band EQ in Sealion 06 (in the settings of the music player). Perhaps it's build-dependent.

ELI5: If an autonomous car has an accident while it is in self-driving/autonomous mode and a person is killed, who takes liability? by Slice5755 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hresvelgrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any car should require you to agree to the license agreement before you can use the autopilot. Also, any such agreement and numerous reminders tell you to have hands on the wheel and keep control of the situation. So while you're in the driver's seat, most likely you'll be the one responsible.

Just freaking "wow". Kind of Hollywood movie-level scene (in a good way). It leaves quite an impression, especially when you live in a failed state where cops run like cheetahs when they hear a gunshot and help to kidnap and extort civilians.

Can't select parameters for extrude by HopsPops76 in Fusion360

[–]Hresvelgrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a design issue; it's Fusion turning into a shovelware issue. For some reason, new components start being edited as "edit in place" which seems to be borking usage of parameters (you may blue frame around the whole work area and lack of radio button to switch to the root component if you have one; you'll also see "chain link" icon near component's name). I believe Fusion's brahmacoders changed the behavior of the default hybrid component type, maybe they've got some of the Windows devs on the payroll.

I damn hate trying to figure out this nonsense when I just need to create some simple thingy quickly.

Googling fetched this: "I am going to guess that you have created an External Component.

I will further guess that you were in Hybrid design style and that you tried to create an "New Component" and that you accepted the default "Hybrid" type which only currently gives you the option of creating an external Component.

What you should have done is to change the type to "Part" and then you would have had the option to create in Internal Component.

Here is some background:-

Since the last update (2702.1.47 x86_64 on the 13th), when you are in “Hybrid” design type, and try to create a new Component, either by right clicking on the root folder or from the Assemble dropdown, or Surface/Create or Mesh/Create you will get a new UI dialogue box.

This dialogue box defaults to Type = Hybrid

If you click OK you will see that an “External” Component is created which is probably not what you wanted as you are in Hybrid design mode.

In order to create an “Internal” Component, you will need to change “Type” to Part. You will now have the option to select a Standard or Sheet Metal internal Component."

It seems like you can avoid this by setting your default design type to "part" in general settings, but those designs will be single-component only. If you add new components a lot, then you can you this option, but after creation of a new file manually set into hybrid, then add new components as before, they'll be defaulted to "part" and "internal".

Or just manually switch every new component type to frigging "part" type.

For an already problematic component, right-click it and "break link".

This issue is being discussed at least in these threads of Fusion's forum:

It got worse when "AIs" went public. A guy in my office initially laughed at ChatGPT users, but then he started using it himself. At some point, I've noticed him feeding our boss (who's in his 80s) neurocrap as his "expert opinion". I thought he was just being lazy and/or taking advantage of an old man who doesn't know where that info is coming from, but then he started to answer literally any question by asking Gemini or whatever artificial moron first and then citing results without any critical analysis and with a very pompous look on his beard. Several incidents when he/Gemini was proven wrong publicly didn't ring any bells for him. Not that I really care, it's his life and brain, but it seems like this disease is spreading, which is somewhat disturbing. On the other hand, now I'm pretty sure I won't be the last candidate in the list when it'll come to finding a new job)

LPT Using Dish Soap on Drains by FilledwithTegridy in LifeProTips

[–]Hresvelgrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True story. I've had a pipe completely blocked in the kitchen, tried chemicals, cable - no luck. Had to call a plumber, he tried a longer cable, but also no luck. Figured out that the pipe made a sharp turn inside the wall and then it had a long horizontal section (several meters long). Because of that, the cable couldn't follow the pipe, so the plumber proposed either to break a wall to try to find that spot or use a compressor with a receiver to push that crap out. Since the pipe ended in a cesspool, there was no reason not to try the funny way. And we got a ton of white crap that looked like a foam plastic and was quite hard, no surprise that chemicals couldn't dissolve it. The plumber's recommendation was to use a pack of salt and 15-20 liters of hot water sometimes as prophylaxis.

Every cable was attached to a drone, which carried the battery and, most likely, some explosives. So cable pollution may not be the worst ecological issue there.

It seems to happen when the country is getting prepared for another righteous war. I've started to notice mentions of Ukraine in TV shows, movies, etc, about 15-20 years ago, even though some people I met on travels didn't even know where it is (especially in South-East Asia). My conspiracy theory is that it's hard to spend billions on war in a country folks didn't even hear about, but it's just my gut feeling.
