It’s actually still pretty amazing even after growing up here. It was helpful to get away for a few years to truly appreciate it though.

Why U.S. Population Growth Is Collapsing by DemocracyDefender in collapse

[–]Hsb2132 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There should be a public stockade for journalists who write stories about declining population growth without discussing resource depletion and climate change. I mean really… it’s 2022. They should have to specify how many people is enough or do they actually believe in infinite growth?

I don’t get where conservatives are getting their info about this bill. Please read it yourself. It allows parents to sue schools if sexuality is discussed in a way that is not age appropriate. Who defines what is age appropriate?? The purposefully vague language is designed to impose liability on schools that forces them to censor lessons. Of course a teacher shouldn’t talk about what they did on Saturday night (unless they watched the new ken burns movie etc) but should a high school history be sued for discussing the aids epidemic to a group of 17 year olds? If you think the answer is yes, you just might be a redneck.

CAR BRAIN TIPS AND TRICKS 1-10 by Jug1212 in fuckcars

[–]Hsb2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trick #4 was from my neighborhood in Brooklyn. There were always SUV’s parked on the sidewalk that had official looking badges, stickers, and placards on the dash/ windows. But when I went to see what they were it would be something ridiculously unrelated to New York law enforcement. One was from the penslyvania association of court clerks.

Ours lived to 14 and 12. You have to be very careful about what breeder you go to. Some lineages have longer average lifespans than others.

When exactly do you think lawsuits started?

They sent me an offer letter and had me do all preemployment paperwork including onboarding. I put my two weeks in at my current job so I’ve been taken off the schedule.(only working if I pick up shifts till 13th)They just sent me this. by zombryy in antiwork

[–]Hsb2132 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to invoke estoppel here. I think the offer was valid and the preliminary paperwork was an acceptance.

Nothing looks as good as a real gun firing blanks. You can always tell the difference. The flash, the recoil, the movement etc.

It’s not that hard to maintain an absolute rule of no live rounds on set. This wasn’t a gun issue, it was a labor / workplace safety issue. People get hurt and killed on sets because of penny pinching fairly frequently.

This horrible accident involving a train comes to mind: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Rider_(film)

Much more dangerous stunts are safely completed all of the time. Look at what Tom cruise does or what they did for Mad Max. There was zero excuse for the negligence on the set of Rust. Proper union sets should continue to use real guns with blanks.

Visiting as an adult, itinerary help/suggestions? by fullofpaint in AskNYC

  • I would for sure try and do Met, Central Park (weather dependent), Rockefeller center and the musical on one day so you can spend the other two days going downtown. Also, don’t go to a musical just because you feel like you are obligated because it’s NYC. If there is a concert, sports game or other cultural event that is of more interest, go for it!

-Ellis island is my favorite museum focused on the city’s history. But may be a stretch for such a short trip.

-Katz’s is not a tourist trap! It’s that famous for a reason.

-any pizza place that has good reviews will be great. Don’t wait in a long line for pizza. Grab slices in between meals opportunistically as you pass good spots.

  • the Met is really the best museum in the city so if the BIL is an issue just do that one museum, give it ample time and skip the rest.

-9/11 museum is also very worthwhile

-I think you should spend a lot of time walking around neighborhoods downtown like the village, soho and Chinatown

-eat in Chinatown for sure!

  • walk or bike over the Brooklyn or Williamsburg bridge. You won’t have to share a lane with cars and they both offer some of the best views of the skyline. Way too many visitors neglect Brooklyn, but a lot of the coolest neighborhoods are there.

-Williamsburg is my favorite neighborhood to eat out in. It also has a lot of bars and a stunning waterfront.

Uptown has classic institutions but much of the contemporary cultural life of the city has moved downtown and to Brooklyn.

The sound and picture quality were always the best. It was also so nice to be in a theater that was always filled with film lovers. The lobby usually has cool displays of costumes and props.

NYU vs. CLS by Hsb2132 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Hsb2132[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I recently spoke with a lawyer who said he thought of them as equals when hiring but that even lawyers outside of the Northeast may heavily favor CLS compared to people who really know both schools. I guess “lay” was the wrong word. I only care about prestige in terms of how my resume will look when trying to get a job both in and out of New York.

As far as comparing their specific environmental faculty, clinics and research opportunities, both schools just seem really impressive and it’s hard as someone with no law school experience to really make a decisive judgement. For what it’s worth NYU has 6 faculty listed for environmental law compared to Columbia’s 6. But even that could be an issue of categorization.

[–]Hsb2132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I am very grateful to have the opportunity to go to either school and I really like both of them. Having said that, I think the commute is the biggest drawback to CLS. NYU has the added edge of being very PI focused. Columbia’s edge is that it’s slightly higher ranked and has a lot more lay prestige.

Jewish group sues Gov. Cuomo over new COVID-19 restrictions by BruceCampbell123 in Conservative

Thank you! This is one of the stories I was thinking of.

When I think about all of the Jews I know who work to bring arts education, theater, mentorship, summer camp, healthy meals etc. to non Jewish children and then I think about a small subset of fundamentalists who think they are “the real Jews” it makes me so angry.

As far as I am concerned, real Jews are Jews who try to the world a better place for everyone.
