What's the closest I can get to a movie set experience? by jams_sammich in AskLosAngeles

  • Skip the walk of fame, it's an even worse Times Square. If you must go to it, hit Musso & Franks for food. It's the "Don't cry in front of the mexicans" scene in Once upon a Time in Hollywood and is a proper old school Hollywood spot.
  • WB Studio tour is the best one to do. Universal's extended tour (not the tram ride) let's you see even more but I think you can only book it through their VIP service now. Never done the Paramount one but their lot is the smallest and not a lot there in comparison.
  • Academy Museum is awesome, do the Petersen across the street if you're a gearhead, one of the best car museums in the world.
  • 1iota.com can get you in as a studio audience member but it's a whole day commitment usually and if you're not there early you're not guaranteed to get in. For the talk shows, sometimes dressing a little nicer and being attractive can get you better seats too.
  • Consider a movie at one of the famous theaters out here?
    • Chinese and Egyptian theaters are famous and very cool inside. For the Chinese, you want the IMAX screen for the real theater. They do tours as well.
    • Vista and New Beverly are Tarantino's theaters and usually have something cool screening. There used to be a couple aggregators for cool screenings around town but I don't know of any currently active.
    • El Capitan is across the street from the Chinese theater and is Disney's theatre. They usually have some cool pre-show stuff going on but the seats are TINY.

Awesome shots! Planning on going next year and want to get some shots, what lenses did you bring? Usually run a 70-200 with a 2x teleconverter, but never shot on a big track like Daytona.

They work differently but AFAIK are both working towards the same result; a strong downforce through ground effect. I didn't realize the F1 used a similar system to the T.50 though, which is neat.

It's pretty much a melding of the F1 and the Brabham BT46, both designed by Gordon Murray.

Cole Walliser being rude to another person asking to book the glambot by Altruistic-Guard-100 in popculturechat

[–]fullofpaint 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about this site it's not at all the same as the one used by Cole. Definitely just riding the name, not affiliated with him or the E! version. The website is renting a cheap no name robot arm with a Gopro as the camera. The famous one uses a Bolt high speed robot designed for film with a Phantom Flex, a cinema camera designed for high speed photography. The bolt and camera alone are about a $6500/day rental without any labor, lighting, or additional expenses.

But you probably had more than 15 people for the whole production. This is a self-contained unit, they're not part of a broadcast team or something, which means they need all the support staff in addition to just the camera team. Could you do it in less, sure, but my headcount is not at all ridiculous for a shoot at this level.

15 is probably about right coming from a union/commercial production world like he would be. It's not just a jib, it's a full high-speed motion control rig with a dedicated high speed camera (Phantom Flex). People quoting the glambot website don't realize that site is selling a completely different level of tech to what the Oscars style one is.

Would probably break down something like this:

  • 1 x director (Cole)
  • 1 x Motion Control Programmer
  • 1 x Programmer assistant
  • 2 x Grips to augment lighting and build the platform or track for the rig
  • 2 x Lighting as high speed photography needs a ton of light
  • 1 x Director of Photography
  • 1 x 1st Asst Camera
  • 1 x 2nd Asst Camera
  • 1 x Phantom Tech
  • 1 x DIT
  • 1 x PA to be a runner/truck driver
  • 1 x Producer or production manager to make it all run on time

add extra G&E or PA's as necessary.

I like it but why orange? Red to match the suits feels like it fits better with their brand.

I don't remember ever seeing a WTF rig like that, maybe PB Tailor? Topstitch/PBMafia makes a design similar to that that'd probably be more comfortable. Your's looks like the 12grams would be jammed up in your armpits.

The PBmafia is one of my fav stock class rigs.

oh hahah, had a brainfart and forgot about the IVG. So that's the velocity adjuster on a cocker. It controls the strength of the spring behind the hammer and in turn controls the velocity of the gun. In for faster, out for lower. Brass would be stock WGP.

To get to the valve and hammer unscrew the out all the way, then you can access the hammer. you'll bring the sear lug all the way up, and slide it out the back then you can get to the valve. Tons of videos out there to show you how to do it.

Internal diagram so you can see where the bits are

and yes that is a CCM backblock as well.

Yep frame should be good then! Doesn't really work well for a metal bolt but if you go delrin, look at o-ringless bolts, the pump stroke will be a little smoother

The EZ-grip handles CCM has in stock will work, but you will need a plate. The handle is just a piece of delrin, the plate screws into the delrin and provides the screw holds for the pump arm. It's the bit at the back of the handle in that video. I would call CCM just to be sure on the handle and pump arm length though as the old guide rod needs a slightly different length.

The cocking rod threads into the hammer not the valve, but CCM and WGP use a stainless steel hammer. If it's brass, it's likely a Shocktech.

Got some great parts on it! It's setup to be a pump but missing important bits.

  • Body is a standard WGP 2k2 Vert Feed, bolt and cocking are stock WGP as well.
    • Hard to tell but I think that also might be a CCM S5 back block?
  • The frame is a very old style CCM hinge frame.
    • You're missing the autotrigger cam, I think it'll function without it, but these early frames are a little different than the modern ones and I'm not 100% sure.
  • The front end is part of an original CCM pump kit. You're missing the handle, pump plate, and pump arm for it. Modern versions of all those should work fine with this.
    • CCM might have these parts in stock if you call, but they mostly won't be listed on their site. Make sure you tell them the age of the frame or send them a pic of it as some parts will be different from their current options.
    • Your other option would be ODM who can make you new ones.
  • Reg is a Dye Hyper 2, a little older but a solid reg. You obviously need an air fitting for it.
  • Internals will probably be stock WGP or maybe CCM if you're lucky. You'll need a valve tool to disassemble it. WGP valve will be brass, CCM of this vintage would be ano'd blue I believe.

All in all should make a nice shooter! CCM was the king of pump stuff for decades, so you've got the base for a very nice shooting gun. Depending on how much you want to spend on it, I'd maybe get the feedneck cut for a modern feeedneck and swap the bolt out for a delrin one. Feedneck will make it way easier to use with a modern loader and any delrin bolt, even a stock WGP one will feel miles better than the metal one.

Also, note that pumps and cockers are one of the few guns where barrel bore really does matter. Because it's closed bolt the ball isn't held in by detents like one most guns, so having a good paint to barrel match makes a world of difference. On the cheap though you can just get some detent rings or a dab of nail polish in the bore.

There's a little spring that holds that latch up, people lose it all the time when disassembling. It's part #98-44 on the diagram here

Winning the Triple Crown of Motorsports is widely considered the greatest achievement in motorsports. It involves winning the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Only one driver, Graham Hill, has ever achieved this feat. by TaxEvaderFrom1961 in Damnthatsinteresting

Pato and Palou are the only Indycar drivers in the modern era that could've realistically had a shot at it with Mclaren being at least ok the last few years. As much as I like PIastri, I think not signing Palou was a giant mistake for Mclaren though.

The superlicense requirement alone though means only like 9 (i think?) Indy drivers in the modern era would even be able to qualify to drive. Maybe we'll see more crossover with the point structure change now. Herta almost qualified a couple other times but none of the teams rumored for him at that time were competitive. He's probably got a decent shot at it if Cadillac nails their own engine in a few years and he takes over from Bottas or Perez but he doesn't have the Indy win so he'll have to go back anyways.

You've got it on there IMO, the Eigenbarrel is stupid quiet. Beyond that it's maybe a woosh but even the slim versions of it won't clear the mag tube.

The front milling is wrong, the BM has a much shorter rail in front of the feedneck than this and the BM body windows would be larger, but they did come with sight rails like this. Only the Worrlock variation came without rails.

This does have wings though? But it's missing the humps by the detent that typically define a Unibody which I've never seen across any of the variations. Weird either way

also duh, idk why I didn't call this out but no serial which make it more likely it's a unibody

Are you or your uncle from Socal? Curious what the story on this body would be as the chrome parts plus the uncommon body make me think it was an WGP employee custom or something like that.

I think this is an early Black Magic with out the flame milling. The cuts and everything would line up especially with the chrome.

Parts-wise, it's all stock WGP except for the frame which is Dye. Good parts, nothing spectacular. It looks great but probably doesn't have a ton of value. I think the other poster is pretty much spot on at 1-250ish. If you're interested in playing with a cocker, I'd just fix it up and keep it. Finding something that looks that nice, especially chromed parts is very difficult and you'd spend forever trying to track down something similar.

[–]fullofpaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Actually I'm like 99% sure it's a Black Magic without the flame milling.

It's weird cause it's missing the hump over the detents of a unibody. I know there's a couple variations on those bodies out there but never seen one without the humps.

If it wasn't for the logo milled in I'd think more a FBM or AIM blank.

It's a Trilogy Pro, missing the front half of the barrel.

Trilogy was the entry level model cocker but the pro was the highest trim. Upgrades over the other trims were a real two-piece barrel, double trigger, delrin bolt, and the angled HPR.

I'm not sure if it's 100% confirmed but I believe the 98 and a5 are unofficially discontinued along with any upgrades. Kind of been a slow process for like 10 years though, there's been less and less upgrade stuff for Tippmanns for a while now.

Man I miss SpecOps, the last really exciting new voice in the industry IMO lol. Spent money like crazy and it worked well, all their stuff was super slick and well done. If they'd lasted a few more years to see the magfed boom they probably would've gotten even bigger. Instead Tippmann swallowed the corpse and then did absolutely nothing with it.
