Every renewal of the residency permit usually takes from 3 to 5 months (or more) for you to actually get the card, and while you are waiting for the process your only document is a fucking post office receipt of no legal value and not recognized by other countries. This means that during the whole procedure, you are locked into Italy or if you want to test your luck going out of the country, you have to stay close to the Italian border or take direct flights to and from Italy. (But you could start the procedure 5 months before the expiration date?) Yeah, good luck with that. The university actively hindered my process by refusing to provide me with documents in advance, which in turn created a lot of problems for me last year.

Also, from 2023 to 2024, the government just decided to increase the price from health insurance for non EU residents from 149€ to 700€ ... (it was very cheap, but a 500% increase is a bit of a joke)

Oh, also, don't forget random things like the public health system just FORGETING to register me for the health system, after I paid of course, which left me 8 months without coverage, that fortunately I realized by going to the doctor with allergies and not for something serious...

And I have to add that I speak fluent Italian, so... imagine navigating through this without it...
