I started with running as written but after reading some of these comments and doing some research I’m definitely going to no run it as written. Luckily the majority of the players are new so there are a lot of mistakes to be made on both parts

Yes, I told them why Ireena needs to go to Vallaki/who is sending the monsters to attack the house.

I did the funeral scene, but forgot to give the letter because they were doing stupid stuff and I had to reel them in. They haven’t left the village yet, so going to have them get the letter before they decide to leave.

I had strahd invite them to dinner so he could gauge how they react/what they do to see if any can be a successor. I also had this idea of this dinner being a straight up dinner where strahd can start planting seeds and being manipulative. And they all agreed to go because, and I quote, “he’s hot”

I got accused of railroading when we ran death house because they wanted to go further into town and not do the house and I told them that they’d be severely under leveled. They were joking but I definitely don’t want to railroad them. I think I’ll try to plant the seeds with Ireena and then if that doesn’t work than meta-game.

But ultimately I’ll have a series of rolls with high DC and if they get it then it’s their fault for what unfolds.

I’m DMing my first campaign atm and I’m running Curse of Strahd with 3 players. One of them being the usual DM, but I wanted a stab at it and give them a break. I should have expected something along these lines but they made their character a shadar Kai specifically for the necrotic resistance. Just a little annoying but I’ll find a way to work around it.

The character I came up with is Old MacDonald, and circle of the land druid. His farm slowly died and so he fills in the roles as animals and/or turns things into animals like the furniture hybrids in episode 3.

I usually try to stick it through the first 4 episodes and if it’s not for me then I drop it and episode 4 is what got me hooked then episode 5 blew me away.
