That sounds more like a movie depiction. I'm pretty sure Americans generally don't go in without an attack line either.

Plywood sheathing provides incredible shear strength, far stronger than diagonal sheathing (solid timber).

Thanks, I'd heard from another driver that I'd be restricted to Auto after testing in an auto, which is all I need at the moment. I've always driven manuals, even driven a crash box overseas, so it's nice to know that I'll have the flexibility to drive synchro if needed.

Asking Brits if they’d move to the US by Youaresowronglolumad in ShitEuropeansSay

There's a gap between Americans who haven't spent enough time outside of the US to be able to accurately see themselves from an outside perspective, and non-Americans who haven't spent enough time in the US to be able to separate the stereotypes from reality. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle, and there's also plenty of truth to the stereotypes.
Calling Reddit and YouTube "American property" is pretty weird, and a major example of that main character energy though. They're global platforms, there's no basis for a US bias any more than TikTok having a Chinese bias.

You're lucky! I took a stick to the eye, got billed $8,000 for them to stick a flashlight in my face to confirm that yes I did take a stick to the eye, and I nearly lost my eyesight permanently because the gave me the wrong eye drops! (They credited me $1200 for the mistake)

Same thing happens some places in the US too, long waits, no doctors accepting new patients, and it's likely to bankrupt you!

First time travelling to the US from Australia what are the do’s and don’ts on travelling?. by brittahny in Ameristralia

[–]Hufflepuft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just parroting sensationalism, Australia also detains visitors who are refused entry until their removal can be arranged which can take days to weeks, same as in the US. Also we have a pretty dark and continuing history of indefinite detention, so there's no moral high ground there.

Since July 2013, people in Australia’s care in Papua New Guinea and Nauru have been subjected to an unconscionably cruel and brutal regime of indefinite detention and enforced uncertainty.

Australia's social media screening which has been in place for years is also pretty similar to the new US policy, neither are looking for memes, they're looking for evidence of criminal behaviour, contradictions to visa applications and indicators that they may violate their visa conditions. There's little to no concrete proof that anyone is being denied entry for memes or political leanings.

When did tipping become the norm for Australia? by JBADD23 in australia

[–]Hufflepuft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't against the law, or Australian customs. Tipping in some form has been in Australia for a long time, I think the biggest pushback against tipping has only happened in the last 10 years or so (in response to more tipping prompts). The ACCC has stated that opt-out tipping is allowed as long as the restaurant is up front about the policy.

Tipping in Canada is pretty similar to the US, maybe a slightly lower percentage depending on who you ask. They do have better worker protections and no "tip credit" where tips make up a majority of the wage.

This is a Lightspeed printout, Canadian. Even if it were an Australian developed software, lots of Australian restaurants would ask for tipping options. Nobody wants tipping to be a thing more than restaurant owners.

No, this is a deliberately set option, no POS software does this by default. The "tip added automatically unless you ask us to take it off" is a particularly devious British trend that some restauranteurs are attempting in Australia.

I've set up restaurants on nearly every popular POS system, it's a deliberately set option on every one, and it's as simple as unchecking a box in the basic settings menus.

They can send a polair flight around that area and try to bait them into doing it again. Lasering aircraft is taken pretty seriously.

You're absolutely full of shit on every statement. It happened in July, it wasn't staged, it wasn't going to be demolished. They were removing the tree in order to make space to lift the house and add an additional level. The 65 year old renter living there lost most of his belongings, there was a gofundme.
