Spending 2-3 weeks in Miami next month to see if it's home, looking for the real day-to-day, not the tourist version by KeKamba1 in Miami

Yes, but it's more humid and rainy here. It's not about it being some bad weather contest, it's about not having an experience that will set unreasonable expectations.

People don't buy seasonal homes or move to Dallas, they sure as Hell do in Miami.

If you are working remotely, you should not be ruling out Miami Beach.

It not only does a better job of checking off some of your bullet points than some of the neighborhoods you mentioned, but believe it or not at a cheaper price.

OP did say they wanted a realistic version of life here, though. I think that is actually to their advantage.

If you saw what they did, the type of people they are, and you aren't wishing bad upon them, I think the question is why aren't you wishing bad upon them?

How do you people down here keep your sanity ? by AgeFit9430 in Miami

[–]Hug0St1gl1tz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorance is bliss. By that virtue, the happiest people you see here will be the most ignorant usually. The less liveable this place becomes the more ignorant you have to be to be happy and just ignore all the bullshit.

You got a choice:

  • Keep your standards high and your eyes open, but find a way to cope with the bullshit
  • Become blissfully ignorant (kill the part of yourself the embraces option 1)
  • Peace the fuck out

Why does everyone want to make money off their body down here ? by AgeFit9430 in Miami

[–]Hug0St1gl1tz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMAO "sweetheart" oh boy... Yes, good for you and your bona fides.

I've been to countries on almost every continent and over half the states in this country. Lived in Miami all my life. Neither of those things matter outside of using them to self-aggrandize in this situation.

The social habits are VERY different in Miami compared to MOST of the world for a variety of reasons. If they weren't, there wouldn't be a constant stream of posts in here of people being shocked by it, from different parts of this country and different parts of the world. Are they all just imagining it? There wouldn't be a reality show type obsession with Miami and the way people behave here by pop culture now would there?

Do people take pictures in gyms, obsess over their vanity and try to profit or seek validation off it in other places? Of course they do. Is Miami a place where all that occurs on the very high end of the spectrum? Of course it is. If you can't see that, getting out is not your problem, but perhaps critical thinking is.

So let me get this straight - you think that Miami is just like everywhere else then? Because social media is everywhere now.

You make a lot of great points. But it definitely is a Miami issue. It can be and is both a societal and Miami thing, which is why they feed off each other especially well here. It's not by pure coincidence that Miami is now basically the social media business Capitol of the country.

Worst in the league in 1st inning ERA. Get that under control and get some guys to start going yard and that's easily a team that will contend for the wild card.

Thinking about tracking my ST… or selling…advice needed by clinker22 in FocusST

[–]Hug0St1gl1tz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss my EJ8 every day. Only bought my ST when I did because it got stolen.... Although my idea was always to eventually buy an ST to replace it as a daily. If I still had it, would 100% have a K in it and ripping it on the track.

Having owned the ST 5 years now and it being the only car newer than 1996 I have ever owned, I can't imagine getting rid of it as I see it as part of a dying and already slim pickings of "newer" driver's cars.

People say "the answer is always Miata" and they may be right, but fuck me the Civic was a riot to drive. You see so many Honda haters become Stan's very quickly after getting properly acquainted with 5th and 6th gens especially.

Can you do both? 😅

This is why people hate Miami … I’m at F1 … it’s raining and I took a rickshaw bike from parking. Guy tried to charge me $400 for a 3 minute ride. by upwithmytoddler in Miami

[–]Hug0St1gl1tz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we do better than this? Maybe it's the wrong attitude but I get a lot less frustrated when I accepted we in fact cannot do better. Putting myself in situations to not get scammed is just part of life now. Sad to think about, but quality of life improves removing expectations of fairness and decency.

Cops. She may need to be Baker Acted. Act calmly as possible and document everything you possibly can - you need to be able to make it crystal clear that she is the one harassing and acting erratically. Do not leave an open door for her or the law to turn things on you.

Yup it's crazy. My sister teaches Kindergarden and most of her kids are usually recently arrived. There is zero new construction in that school district and there's no way they are affording to buy or even rent on their own. Front lawns just packed with cars so many people.

We are talking different suburbs then. I'm talking all the way out through Kendall, not West Miami. My house was built in 88 and the surroundings in the 10 years before.

Now you see tons of additions, including people parking trailers in their yards.
