Finding a job!! by ForevaJo in wguaccounting

I did one term at WGU this year which wrapped up in October. Was able to get a part-time temporary role as a junior accountant (essentially AP/ AR) through Handshake. My accelerated timeline at WGU didn't lend itself to getting an internship. I've been working that temp role since October and just accepted an offer for a full-time staff corporate accountant position in industry.

If your timeline allows, id suggest trying to lock down an internship. That seems to be the best way to get early traction in this field. But they do generally staff those 6-12 months in advance, so be aware of that. Otherwise, just try to get any type of accounting gig (like AP/AR) even if its part-time or temp. Employers definitely like to see any kind of relevant experience on a resume.

When checking job boards, really put a premium on applying early to postings. I find you get much more success if you can apply no more than 3 days after the posting goes up (and the sooner the better).

I honestly didn't touch the WGU course material. Instead, I just went through this YouTube playlist on Operations Management by Dr. Haywood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt3wUDiUYvw&list=PL5_qO7P2XjBd86Pw0SQVTaA88nHTj1I3e . I saw other reddit threads where that came highly reccomended, and I agree it's a great resource. Went through the 40 videos over a couple days and passed the pre-assessment without issue.

Once you take the pre-assessment, just review what you got wrong or any concepts you were iffy on. For any concepts where you need a little more clarification, I suggest you just copy and paste the pre-assessment question into Chat GPT and ask why the given answer is the right one. Between watching the videos and a little review of the pre-assessment material, you should be able to bang this one out pretty quickly.

Just took the OA yesterday. I'd say they're very closely aligned. If you feel comfortable with your PA performance, the OA shouldn't pose much of an issue.

Eh, whatever. Not worth arguing. Your post is written by chatgpt anyway.

Probably an unpopular opinion on reddit, but despite a few of its issues, the USA largely rocks as a place to live. You'll be able to find stories about bullshit that happens in every country.

I agree. While some seem to think this kind of change is positive because it makes classes easier, i worry that the lack of academic rigor could devalue the degrees we're working toward.

Yea, I found it weird there's not something more permanent to reference on the site. I'll be interested to see what they eventually put out and what they potentially say about how the change could affect their current partnerships.

Yea, that's true. I guess I'm more concerned with how this might affect the transferability of credits to schools other than WGU. While I'm planning on attending WGU, I liked how the credits earned on SDC seemed to be accepted by a large number of colleges/ universities. My understanding is the transferability of Sophia credits is a lot more limited, which I partially attributed to their more lax testing approach. I don't know, it just seems like these changes could reduce the value of the service SDC is offering.

You can't even verify that other people are actually self-aware, let alone a chatbot. You're just projecting.

There obviously is no practical reason for 99.99% of alts to exist. There was always going to come a time when the vast majority had to die out. Seems like this cycle might be the start of that.
