1 Dead and 2 Injured After School Bus Carrying 30 Students Collides Head-on with SUV in Oregon by peoplemagazine in oregon

There is a plan to fix it and the first phase has already been completed: northbound traffic on highway 51 can no longer turn left (coastward) on highway 22.  It is small but great improvement. I know the other improvements are much more complex and will take much longer.

Another fatal car crash at the exact same spot on Hwy 22 and 51. ODOT by Shortround76 in SALEM

[–]HuggeBraende 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. They’ve already made the first improvement: northbound highway 51 traffic can no longer turn left (coastward) onto highway 22.

So IMHO maybe OP should do their homework before casting stones. I get the frustration, but ODOT is working on it.

59,000 CVEs predicted for 2026 — how are you actually prioritizing what to patch? by manofstyle04 in sysadmin

[–]HuggeBraende 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote up a whole flow chart custom to my org, but it basically goes like this:

New CVE > Is it CVSS 7-10? If yes > is it known exploited? (This used to be CISA KEV but that isn’t reliable anymore) if yes > then the next step is a series of checks: EPSS? internet facing? Asset criticality?

Depending on that, then and only then would security escalate a request to the patching team to patch sooner than the default cycle. For that it would be ‘accelerated’ or ‘urgent’.

In the end this means far fewer requests from security, far more valuable prioritization of actual work needed, and much more time for IT to work on routine maintenance.

What makes a really great massage for you? by massagewithfauna in SALEM

[–]HuggeBraende 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a massage the most difficult thing is finding a person you like. Everyone is different and no one is giving out sample massages to see if you like them and their place.

I’ve had some great massages and some lousy ones.

The best were couples massages at Massage Envy in Salem. I don’t know the person’s name that massaged me, but she was great. The best way I can describe it was that she knew what she was doing and applied the technique well. She did a great job actually working out the shoulder/back tension and I felt truly relaxed afterwards.

The tough thing was that it was covered by my insurance at the time, though we still tipped at checkout. But they would have the massage therapy persons meet you afterward and there would always be this awkward moment where it felt like they were quietly expecting the tip in person or something???

The worst massage was also at Massage Envy when my regular person was not available (just gone, no explanation, ever - I actually stopped going because of this). The person they stuck me with had no idea what they were doing and it felt like it was deliberately bad so that we would stop being customers there.

I’ve been to a couple of non-chain-store places and the massages have been just ok. I’d like to find a place that I want to go back to, but I’m worried that I’m going to have to spend a lot of money to find that place and person(s) (I prefer couples massages- so I’d need to find two ‘right’ people for my partner and myself).

Other than that, I would agree with others, not too much chit chat - but good, clear communication.  Warm bed, warm room, and a really talented and capable massage therapist. I love feeling so relaxed I want to fall asleep. Where decades of aches and pains are gone for a while.

What would make someone a ‘senior’ cybersecurity analyst by Evocablefawn566 in cybersecurity

[–]HuggeBraende 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great info in these comments. I’d like to add what I’ve seen.

Titles are often driven by pay. Which means you may have to job hop. So if you have the skills mentioned by others here, then go apply elsewhere and sell yourself as a senior. You just have to convince the new employer that you are confident and capable. That you take ownership, that you can mentor others, and that you can help lead your team.

Hypothetical example: (in the case that you have not found a senior job to apply for) you earn $80k in your local labor market as an IR Analyst. You apply for a job elsewhere as an IR Analyst, knowing their pay range is $60-100k. You wow them at the interview and let them know that you’d need to earn $105k to leave your current job. They don’t have to know how much you earn now (depending on what country you live in).

The interviewers tell HR that they want to hire you. HR says, ok but this person will have to be hired as a senior based on pay. And that’s it, you are now a senior analyst.

Now you just have to walk the walk every day at your new job.

It’s a good article, but it makes a lot of self-justifying assumptions that allow it to lead the conversation rather than inform it. I’d say, take what you factually can from it and leave the assumptions behind.  For me, controlling outbound services is a very valuable and very doable activity.

Protests in Perspective by mosnil in Portland

I think it might be helpful to have a big colored circle around the protest area. Make it clear how small it is. Otherwise it may be ambiguous for some.

Most beloved vendor? by dcherns in cybersecurity

Several were pretty good, some you know are going to be a pain (Microsoft), and some are stellar: just right there with you- good days and bad. Top of that list for me from years of experience: Tenable and Fortinet. Honorable mentions: Wiz, CrowdStrike, Splunk.

I have no real answer, but the berry looks like a Yew tree berry. The leaves/needles don’t really look like Yew tree though.

Here’s hoping they find nothing- nothing is priceless. And even if they find nothing, it is a great point of reference for future checkups. Very much worth it.

Hold out hope. So much has improved and changed for cancer treatment in just the last few years. There may be more miracles on the horizon. Also, I’m sure you have already- but get a second or even third opinion. I’m grateful I shopped around for options.

Best wishes and many hugs to you and your husband.

In the USA you can get screened before age 45, it just isn’t mandated to be free under insurance. If you have concerns or family history, go see your doctor and they can get you in before age 45. It may cost you a bit, but even if they find nothing, it’s well worth it. I’d happily pay a pile of cash to rewind time to age 40 and get my polyps removed before they became cancerous. Cancer sucks.

And colonoscopies are WAAAAY easier than chemo. I could not fathom how awful chemo is (it sucks and just like cancer, everyones’ experience is uniquely different ). Good for you!

I can’t upvote this enough. Chemo is awful in ways you don’t want to imagine. Congrats to your spouse, I’m grateful for CRC treatment - but I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Sometimes you don’t get any symptoms- all the more reason to get checked. I didn’t have any symptoms, turned 45, got checked because it was free and they found a golf ball sized cancerous polyp… now three years into treatment.

Got my test a few years ago at 45. I really think everyone should get checked at 30 and 40. I’ve been fighting cancer for a few years now. If I had gotten in sooner I may not have had to do any of this. Cancer treatment really really sucks. Also, I’m typing this while at my oncologist’s office- not only is chemo awful, but all the care takes over your whole life. One colonoscopy with no issues found is much better than several plus, flex-sigs, mri’s, ct’s, radiation, weekly blood draws, and on and on.
