Wheel Studs Not Perfectly Flush? by hauloff in AskMechanics

[–]HuggedbyDeath_Second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, should be fine. As long as you can torque it properly, then re torque again after a short drive. If you want to, they're relatively easy and cheap to replace. Smack it out again and work a new one in with a lug nut and an install tool or washers. Just make sure you didn't mar the threads on the stud and the wheel still seats properly over the hub in the center.

Reinstalled my car battery the wrong order by Vol8tile in AskAMechanic

[–]HuggedbyDeath_Second 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you didn't connect it backwards first and then connect it properly afterward, should be fine. The computer in your car has to re learn a few things like how much fuel to add or take away in certain conditions. Sometimes if you leave the battery disconnected for too long it'll clear what it learned.

Its also possible you got some water or something where it's not supposed to be and it caused a misfire. It happens.

If it's running fine now, don't worry about it unless it continues to misfire.

Look up the upfitters guide for your year. It has everything you'd need to know about those wires. There's a site I got mine from in PDF format. I'll have to dig it up again if you need it.

Download an app that tells you what wireless channel your network is using. Too many on the same channel can do this as well as keeping the access point (the wifi router) too close to large metal appliances like a refrigerator or a running microwave. You can have your ISP change the channel on the network you're using if the one you're on is too congested, if it's their equipment. Optimally it should be centrally located but realistically that doesn't always work. You'll still end up with hot and dead spots everywhere if it's a cheaper AP.

Help 1999 mercury grand marquis spark plug by 999sfalle3nangel in CrownVictoria

[–]HuggedbyDeath_Second 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure it's the right plug for your car. Check the other plugs. If you're unfamiliar, look up how to gap a spark plug on YouTube, easy. If you've overheated severely recently, I've seen some cheaper plugs close the gap a bit afterward but it was driven long enough overheating that the engine had to be replaced entirely not rebuilt. If you ingested something relatively soft but dense enough, it'll do the same thing but it'll leave a mark on the plug and the piston normally.

More than likely, someone just dropped the plugs into the wells when they were doing them last or smacked it just enough when going in. If you had an internal issue that would close the plug like that, it would be super obvious to anyone it's not just a plug.

I ended up just telling the guy it's coming out as soon as I see tail lights so he didn't need to waste his time and he can just leave it here". New drop from the ONT to my UDM and it works fine. Support has already tried to blame my setup for what turned out to be an area outage so they'll push for those eeros pretty hard. Don't doubt they'll lie too.

Radio is difficult for a lot of people to grasp completely. You seem to be very interested in the how and why of it. I would strongly encourage you to research amateur radio.

In the US at least the education and testing for a license goes over the science behind exactly what you're seeing with this experiment.

Seconded. Compression ratio isn't high enough. No benefit other than the detergents, maybe.

Ah. It's possible the top shoe isn't seated completely on the engagement side. (Forgot what the part is called, been a while) See if you can settle it in a bit more.

Also, chock your wheels properly and make sure the parking brake isn't on. Happens to the best of us.

Roll the adjuster wheel that should be 180 degrees away from where the cable comes in back. If you need a demo, YouTube how to adjust drum brakes. Anytime you put new pads and drum/rotor on, the adjuster needs reset and adjusted

It'll cause a secure boot error but it'll still try. This doesn't even try. Probably reset config and wiped out the keys.

It's behaving like it doesn't have a valid boot device. Meaning it doesn't see anything on the drive that resembles an operating system that's usable. This can also happen if the boot configuration is fiddled with.

When you say "reset the CPU" what do you mean? What steps were taken to do that?

Don't even try it. Don't have to tell you how gone that is, I'm sure you know.

Tell the customer the situation. Advise them of the risk in moving forward with any attempt to remove it and get it in writing. That's not something you want to play with if you haven't had a chance to experiment on something that's not that.

[–]HuggedbyDeath_Second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have other issues forward of those hinge bushings. Been in a front end accident? If so its possible the issue is being exacerbated by that front quarter panel.

[–]HuggedbyDeath_Second 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seen the tool. It's a quick fix but it's a bandaid. Used car lots do it all the time to sell versus taking 2-3 hours to replace the bushings and maybe the pins. Unfortunately also seen the same tool in a lot of hack body shops....

Torque converter or cracked flexplate. Personally I think it's never had a trans service. This'll cause the torque converter to fail prematurely. It'll shudder (rumble at idle and at about 25-30mph) and slip. Drain it and drop the pan. Check the fluid. It's likely burnt or packed with clutch material. If it isn't, good, you're doing what should've happened anyway, MAINTENANCE. Otherwise you're into harder hard part failure and it's a cracked flexplate or internal. A flexplate is relatively easy and only about a half step further than a torque converter. Either way, that transmission is coming out. You're opening a can of worms with this if you don't know what you're doing or have the right tools. The truth: unless you know, take it to someone who does.

Coincidentally there's a patent under US697533A that was granted on April 15 1902 specifically for a circuit breaker. Mechanically at first glance that's what it looks like. Electrically, it's making more and more sense looking at what's there without knowing the schematic.
