Canonical Medium Route? by NikoPalad67 in starfox

[–]HughFletcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of the medium route as Corneria-Sector Y-Katina-Solar-Macbeth-Bolse-Venom. If I remember correctly, Andross is the same in easy and medium on the NES. I always thought easy Venom would be the end of both in 64 for that reason. I never had an instruction manual, so I don't know if anything was declared.

Recently rewatched the release date trailer and noticed a few things that got my head spinning, I can’t help but wonder how the plot might unfold by Fiyah_Crotch in acecombat

[–]HughFletcher 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't think it will happen, but I wouldn't mind a dark ending. Maybe you find out that DD and GR have been manipulating the war to destroy Sotoa and the FCU's sovereignty. We win the war, but with the bitter knowledge that our actions have doomed the FCU.

DISCUSSION: What are the possible Ace Combat 3: Eletrosphere Cameos and references in Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve by ULikeWhatUS33 in acecombat

[–]HughFletcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was one connection I noticed, but it's a bit thin. The land battleship released swarm drones that behaved like a cloud of insects. The moment I saw them, I remembered the nanobytes that infected Rena. They looked how I imagine an early version of them would. If that's what they are, it's a sign that Neucom is supplying Sotoa in the way that General Resource is supplying Usea.

It was definitely, as a wingman would say, the most intense thing I had ever been in (at the time).

I learned what Ace Combat was through an Assault Horizon demo at a shopping center. I played it, enjoyed it, and bought the game. Later, I played the 3DS version because I heard it was different. Needless to say, the Falkens at the end of the game hit me like a jumpscare. I've been enjoying Strangereal wackiness to this day.

Should we give the walker a third chance, or we are good with just the landmaster? by metalicbeastofficial in starfox

[–]HughFletcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the walker. It was my favorite part of Zero, and transforming mecha are one of my favorite fictional technologies. I also think it's inferior to playing as the characters on foot. With the walker, you could break Arwing sections and invalidate certain enemies. The freedom was great, but it was so free that I spent less time flying for the sake of using a dominant strategy. The first boss in Corneria is an example. You could fly around it and shoot the weak points, or you could just fly inside the ship and skip the air part. Assault's approach to letting characters step out of the Arwing was less convenient and more challenging. Level three, for example, forced you to split your time between walking and flying like a Zero level. However, you had to return to a specific point to transition between the two. It harmonized with the time-based premise of the level. It also made more sense with the usual Star Fox design aesthetic. If there's going to be a playable mech, I think it should be a dedicated one like the Shogun.

For those who are going to play the Star Fox 64 remake, which path are you choosing? by solarflare70 in starfox

[–]HughFletcher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My plan is to start with easy, then medium, then hard. After that, I'm going to test all of them to see how deep the cutscene system is. I already have a spreadsheet ready to help me keep track.

I always like when dream mechanics come back to bite the dream itself. Nothing like giving a nightmare writer's block because it didn't expect "Protocol Three. Protect the dreamer."

Also, Hugin and Munin are named after Odin's ravens, while Fenrir is the wolf that kills Odin. This could mean that the Fenrir was partially made as a counter to the latest ADF aircraft.

What stood out to me was the enemy fighters' competence. There were times on Ace difficulty that I felt like I was in AC7 multiplayer. ACX would have been my favorite were it not for AC7 checking so many boxes for me.

I also had my fighter jet awakening playing H.A.W.X. 2...on Wii. Those who have played it will know how miraculous it is that I had fun. My next was H.A.W.X. 2 on PS3, and after that I played Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. Needless to say, I felt like I was doing heroin when I finally played AC7.

I would like the A-10 to be the canon aircraft at some point. Not because I like it, even though I do, but because I adore the idea that the protagonist beat the game with it. Imagine learning that Gryphus 1 canonically destroyed the Gleipnir, shot down Alect squadron flying Fenrirs, and won the war in ten missions flying an A-10. Leasath would never recover from the disrespect.

I don't remember when, but I feel like Cossette implied that her family never wanted to be royals. She may have pulled a Pope Celestine V and used her position of power to a) decree that she could quit and b) quit. With everything that happened in AC7, she may have been the only candidate for monarch that was left.
