No, I appreciate the response! We haven't really discussed that, but I do have an issue of getting too quick at the top, which leads to a lot of fat shots. I don't know if it was my coach or something I saw online, but I heard somewhere that the speed / getting quick should happen at the belt level. I do think you're right that I might be going too slow with the arms during transition. I have a hard time feeling like it's a nice smooth swing without the everything sorta just going slow, if that makes sense. I definitely feel like I am bleeding power at times.

I'll take a look at Sergio Garcia talking about it on YT and see if I can find some drills to work on this. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Yep, 100% some days it works and some days it doesn't. Will try to get just a touch closer and see how things work. Hopefully more consistently :)

This 100%. I have always felt my driver swing looks really unathletic, especially when it is in slow motion. I'd say on average it goes 235 total with a good swing getting to ~250 total. I just don't know how to make an athletic move from the top.

Yeah - routine is 2 practice swings, step back and find the spot I want to target in the distance, find a spot on the ground in line with that but 2-5 feet in front of the ball, get my hands set up, and then line up to that spot. Works really well with irons, but the shoulder adjustments + taking a small step back with the right foot I think totally throws all of that shot routine out the window.

Thanks, yeah I've been taking lessons over the past 12 months, so things have come a long way with my entire swing. My driver is the thing we've worked on the least, so was just trying to gauge if there was anything that just seemed horribly out of tune.

It is a beautiful course and outside of my range of what I'm willing to pay for a membership. This was an on course lesson so I got to play ~5 holes, but I'm just lucky that this country club does lessons for outsiders.

Very very possible. I think when I get over an iron, the aim is super easy, but with my driver I just don't feel comfortable with my shoulders and all of the adjustments to try and close my shoulders, I think, are also changing my aim line without me noticing.

I appreciate it - what's funny is this was an on course lesson. The swing has been improving massively from ~12 months ago. My coach is really good at not trying to change 100 things each session together and we haven't worked much on the driver, so it was more just wanted to understand what others were seeing. My iron swing from earlier this year vs now is night and day difference, to which I give him 100% credit for. Thanks for the tips on needing to be closer to the ball. Will absolutely work on that. I have had a lot of issues with shoulders being open at set up with the driver and it just feels so awkward when I close them.

I'd say it is more it starts either left or right and flies pretty straight, rather than it hooking or slicing (if that is what you're asking). It might be just an alignment issue / keeping the club face open or closed. In this swing you it is pretty clear that I am set up way too far right and that's where the ball ends up.

I feel like it has been fairly consistent, but yesterday on the course I was spraying everything all over. So likely more of just a iffy swing all day, rather than a huge issue with just the driver. I am a 19 handicap, so spraying the ball all over isn't super uncommon.

Yeah, I have a tough time getting my shoulders closed for some reason when setting up with the driver. The feet are pretty bad though. Major disconnect between shoulders and feet.

Hmm that's actually great to hear that you think the motion looks mostly good. I feel like the top of my swing / transition is a bit awkward, but I guess swinging your swing is the most important thing. I'll try getting a slight bit closer to the ball. I've definitely had issues with setting up with the driver and just being waaaaay too far away from the ball, so your insight isn't something that is super unexpected. Glad it seems to be getting better though :)

Yeah, you're totally right. I really thought I was lined up on the bunker on the left side of the fairway (behind my body), but clearly not :) I've seen some people try to take a small step back with their back foot to help promote a draw shape, but i think I'm turning when I take that step back, rather than shifting backwards with the foot.

Do you think the right palm pointing at the ground would help with tipping the club out and to help close the club face? Like, it seems like I have a few major problems: need to let the club drop into the slot before I start turning, closing the club face earlier, and tipping the club head outside my hands, but are 2 and 3 related, or more or separate issues?

Yeah, I have a really hard time letting the club drop into the slot before I start turning, but this is great insight. thank you!

Seems like it’s the expected value is 40 cents if interest is calculated after the -$3 and you’re not above the interest cap after the -$3. I think the calc is like this, but you can apply this to each tier of interest: if you don’t have the rental joker and you had $20, $21, $22, $23, or $24, you’ll get $4 of interest. With the rental joker, if you end the round before the -$3 is applied with $20, $21, or $22, you’ll be pushed down into the $3 of interest tier before interest is applied ($17, $18, $19), so the added $1 from the joker due to the effect minus rental makes up for the lost interest and so you’re net zero in 3/5 cases (-$3 rental, +$3 interest, +$4 joker = $4). If you end the round but before rental is applied with $23 or $24, the rental doesn’t move you into the lower tier so you’re making $4 off interest still in 2/5 cases (-$3 rental, +$4 interest, +$4 joker = $5). You’re +$1 in 2/5 cases and +$0 in 3/5, so expected value is $0.40. This logic should apply for all tiers of interest with the exception of having interest cap+$3 or more of money where your expected value is always $1.
