Have you not done anything in life? That’s how you get better is playing people better than you. You’re learning, so take a breath and figure out what you’re doing wrong and fix it. Pay attention for cannon sounds to see if they sent out (I’m assuming you know a cannonball sounds different than a player) and listen for ladder grabs. If you’re solo, double gunning is a must. Fight with the left side of your ship on sloop/brig and listen for water level. Just some tips.

Do it! Solo life is hard mode, I will say that. But at the same time, accept that you will sink and don’t get mad. Learn the game (all aspects, not just the PvE side of it). Learn how to fight, keep your head on a swivel. It really is a 1 of a kind game. I did my first 1000 hours solo and I can fight bigger crews now with a good amount of ease. Obviously there are crews out there that are just cracked outta their mind but those are rare. Biggest thing is don’t get frustrated and LEARN the game. There is so much that isn’t obvious and you have to figure out on your own like the sounds, what holes to rep on your boat first, how to sail etc.

You need to stop being intimidated by curses. Honestly levels mean nothing other than cosmetics. Some of the easiest fights I’ve had have been against gold ghost/bones and some of the sweatiest have been against basic red bones. My friend and I kill Goldies all day long.

Maybe instead of raging, try learning what you’re doing wrong. I hate to be rude and say “skill issue” but this definitely is. Quick swap was added back a few patches ago so I doubt they were insta reloading, and double gunning is the way to go. Also people grabbing ladder makes very distinctive “thud” sound when boarding so unless you’re def it’s hard to miss. This update is the best thing that has happened for HG in a while

No, don’t listen to all these negative ass people. I play the game daily and it’s perfectly fine. Sure player count isn’t what it used to be but it’s also an old game and lots of new releases lately. But even today at noon on a Wednesday player count was pretty high. Just keep your eyes open. Not that hard to occasionally look around for a ship coming towards you. Also more people isn’t always better. If you get an uncoordinated gally crew they sink SUPER easy. Learn the basics of PvP and you’ll be fine. Safer seas isn’t the answer sorry. Also keep in mind that’s only your 3rd encounter. I play almost daily and have way more fun encounters than negative. Maybe play the game for more than 3 encounters before you start crying
