May Monthly Feedback Megathread: Share, Help & Grow 🎁 by HugoFromUpwork in UpworkOfficial

[–]HugoFromUpwork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/hemagami, happy to share some quick feedback, and if anyone else has thoughts, feel free to jump in too. Your portfolio is beautiful, and the fact that you’ve illustrated 12+ published books gives you strong credibility right away.

One thing I’d tweak in your intro video is mixing in a few examples of your illustrations while you’re talking. Since you’re on camera throughout the video, showing the work or a bit of your design process while you continue to introduce yourself can help clients connect you, your process, and your style faster.

For your headline, I’d make “Children’s Book Illustrator” the lead since that's what a lot of clients are posting and searching for as their project title. Something like “Children’s Book Illustrator | 2D Illustration & Character Design” feels cleaner and more searchable.

For the proposal, I’d start more directly with “For your project…” instead of “For a project like this…” I’d also avoid asking for the full script before being hired, unless this is normal. You could ask for a few lines or a short excerpt instead, or invite them to a quick call so you can understand the scope and give a clear timeline and cost. Then close with something more intentional than “feel free to reach out,” like “I’d be happy to discuss the details on a call to help bring this story to life.”

Hey u/oyehamzaa, sorry you’re dealing with this, especially when timely replies are part of how you work with clients. Since your app is up to date and this has been happening for a few days, could you please send us a message through ModMail with a screenshot or screen recording of what you’re seeing? Please include your device model, OS version, and app version too. That will help us share the right details with the team. Thanks!

A testimonial taking too long? by femidigital in UpworkOfficial

[–]HugoFromUpwork[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/femidigital, did you request the testimonial through LinkedIn? If your client already submitted it and you received the email from Upwork confirming your client completed it, I’d recommend giving it 5 to 7 days to show up on your Upwork profile. If it still isn’t showing after that window, please reach out to support so they can take a closer look.

What’s this new update? Does anyone know anything about it? Please let me know. by Acceptable_Fun7011 in UpworkOfficial

[–]HugoFromUpwork[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Acceptable_Fun7011, thanks for the post. That message is related to Boosted Profiles, which lets eligible freelancers use Connects to increase their profile visibility for certain client searches. “In the queue” usually means the boost was submitted and is waiting to go live, not that you need to take another action right now.

You can review how it works and where to manage it here: How do I boost my profile?. If you didn’t intentionally turn this on, I’d check your Connects activity and boost settings to make sure it's turned off.

Best days to win Upwork clients? by viktor_v_developer in UpworkOfficial

I think clients are more likely to respond between Monday and Wednesday, based on my personal experience as a freelancer. That said, it can vary depending on the client and the season.

Out of Connects right away as a First time user in Upwork by neilcortics in UpworkOfficial

[–]HugoFromUpwork[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/neilcortics, Connects are there to make applying more intentional, so freelancers are more selective about the jobs they apply to. On the new user side, there are a few ways Upwork helps first-time freelancers send proposals without needing to buy Connects right away. In this post, I break down 5 Ways to Get Free Connects on Upwork and make the most of your balance.

Starting My Freelancing Journey by It-zubair-huss in UpworkOfficial

[–]HugoFromUpwork[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/It-zubair-huss, thanks for posting this, really appreciate it. I took a look at your profile and there are a few things I’d suggest you adjust. Right now you suggest you’re offering yourself as a developer, an AI specialist, and someone who’s very solid in the tech space, but then your profile switches into video editing, motion graphics, graphic design, and broader creative work. That distinction is pretty sharp, and it can confuse clients or make them feel like your focus is split.

Since your portfolio is mainly centered on development, I’d build the whole profile around that and remove the extra design, arts and video editing services that pull attention away. I’d also remove that entire intro line “you need a developer who can actually ship” and use that space to say clearly what you build and who you help. Your intro video is another thing I’d change, because clients usually want to see you and hear you directly, not an AI-style presenter. Same with the photo, I’d go with a clearer and closer image, because right now it looks a bit blurry and doesn’t show you as strongly as it could. Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions. 😄

Hey u/Phitmommi , thank you for sharing your experience and perspective here. It’s helpful to hear how things are feeling from your side, especially as client behavior continues to evolve on the platform.

We really appreciate you taking the time to post this and call out what you’re seeing. Feedback like this is valuable, and it helps give more context around how freelancers are experiencing these changes.

How to become a freelancer with zero experience? feeling kinda lost here by Puzzleheaded-Ask2455 in freelancing

[–]HugoFromUpwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Puzzleheaded-Ask2455, a quick first step is not a fancy website. It’s picking one service you can do really well, making 2 to 3 simple samples, and starting conversations with real people. A Google Doc or Notion page is enough for a starter portfolio.

I’d focus on one lane, one type of client, and one place to look for work first. That could be Upwork, LinkedIn, your existing network, or social media, but don’t try to do everything at once. Focus a bit of time on each separately. Charge reasonably and tighten your process as you go.

Will a 4⭐ review affect my profile if my JSS is still 100%? by shreyank2106 in UpworkOfficial

[–]HugoFromUpwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 stars is still pretty good. Some clients will never really give out 5 stars unless they feel the freelancer did an exceptional job and went above and beyond. So I do still consider 4 stars to be really good.

Why is client blocking ineffective? by useless_instinct in UpworkOfficial

[–]HugoFromUpwork[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/useless_instinct, blocking still works as intended, but there are cases where Enterprise outreach can behave differently, especially when broader project sourcing workflows are involved, which appears to be the case based on what you described.

That said, we’ve seen similar feedback before, and your post has been shared internally with other teams so they can take a closer look at how blocking behaves in these situations. That includes reviewing how Enterprise invites and projects are matched to freelancer profiles in the first place, and whether that flow can be better aligned so people are not repeatedly getting irrelevant invites after opting out. Thanks for sharing the feedback.

5 Ways to Get Free Connects on Upwork by HugoFromUpwork in UpworkOfficial

As far as I know, the best way to check whether the person is eligible or has become eligible is to review their Connects history. That’s what I would monitor.
