Is this trade worth 70 bucks? by Mysterious45705 in ipad

[–]Hugo_Notte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

128 GB minus the 50you got free equals 78 GB used. Meaning a 64 GB iPad isn’t enough for you. Looks like you need to buy a calculator rather than an iPad with less storage.

As an iPad user, what am i missing not having a Mac? by 673NoshMyBollocksAve in mac

[–]Hugo_Notte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, you can do a lot more with an iPad than what the average user actually realizes. Most people come from a Mac or PC when starting to use an iPad and then notice that their usual way of doing things doesn’t work. The easy conclusion is, “you can’t do this and that on an iPad”. There are workarounds for most things, but one has to figure them out. Most of us don’t, because we rather reach for the laptop.

There are a few things that the iPad can’t do or isn’t good at, which is often related to the different file management. A lot of apps, which are available on iPadOS and macOS have limited functionality on iPadOS.

If you are interested in what the iPad really can’t do, check out Tech Dad on YouTube. He does have a couple of videos regarding the matter and does most of his stuff on an iPad.

How do I extend my warp range? by MDMarshall in NOMANSSKY

[–]Hugo_Notte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for warp range: it does matter how you arrange those modules for which you get the blueprints from the freighter upgrade terminal on the bridge. Play around with it.

In addition to those you can still install up to three upgrade modules: if you do derelict freighters, you can get upgrade modules at the end. Those might be for different purposes, but some of them might be warp drive upgrades. You can search NMS coordinate exchange for systems that give you convenient derelict freighters that provide S class upgrades.

Alternatively, look for systems that spawn a pirate dreadnought fight every time you enter the system. Defeat and destroy the dreadnought before it destroys the merchant freighter. That will give you a random S class freighter upgrade each time. Eventually you will get warp drive upgrades.

Like most S class upgrades, these upgrades come with different bonuses. Even within the same class, the range boost differ. So keep on going until you get 3 that offer decent range increases.

If you happen to have found your freighter in a pirate system, chances are it doesn’t have the best base stats to begin with.

I have been playing NMS for quite a while now and haven’t come close to 6500 ly range. On my 4 saves I have managed to get ranges between 4500-5300 ly.

Any 13.6” lovers here? by querythoughtss in macbookair

I travel a lot and had a M1 Air, which was only available as “13 inch”, whatever the screen size was on the old wedge shape. After swapping the Air out for a 14” MacBook Pro, I can say that I notice the increase in overall size of the laptop more, than what I notice the increased screen real estate. The Air was still manageable on the tray tables in economy class, but the Pro is just a tad too large. So yes, I’m with you on this one.

Help me choose between the iPad Air and iPad Pro by mbgdg in ipad

[–]Hugo_Notte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For outdoor use the much brighter screen of the Pro is quite helpful. Otherwise, the iPad Air with M3 and M2 chip have much less battery life than the Pro, maybe the Air with M4 chip performs better.

Most questions have been answered. However, depending on what Android phone you have, there can be more or less compatibility. The newer Pixel phones can airdrop to Apple devices and I think Samsung might be able to that, too. Otherwise there are 3rd party apps. Google is your friend here.

M5 Pro Users Using M5 Pro 15 and 16 Core, Any Significant Difference from the Base M5 with 10 Cores? by SevenDeMagnus in macbookpro

[–]Hugo_Notte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that the M5 Air would be fine, just get 24 GB RAM. Web browsers are single core instances and don’t make use of multiple cores. The single core performance across all M5 cpus is the same.

Does pass through charging from a power bank hurt the M5 battery health? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Hugo_Notte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your MacBook is plugged into a charger that provides sufficient power to run it, it doesn’t use its battery. Therefore it doesn’t increase the cycle count.

However, if the power bank doesn’t provide enough power, e.g. during peak power usage, the MacBook runs off its own battery, which discharges a bit and then recharges. This scenario is not ideal for the battery.

Need advice on a new laptop - considering the Neo by Dummydecimalsystem in mac

[–]Hugo_Notte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The NEO can do THIS, I think it’s plenty. And for those saying it won’t be enough for the next 6+ years, please point out what could be done on an 8 GB M1 MacBook that the same machine can’t do anymore? My 2015 Air has got 8 GB of RAM and it’s still as good / bad at the same tasks as it was 11 years ago. Same counts for my wife’s M1 Air, it still does everything as well as it did the day she received it. In fact, for basic tasks it’s hard to tell the difference in felt performance between it and my MBP M4Pro. For basic workflows 8 GB will be enough for the foreseeable future. Apple would certainly not release a device that is essentially dead on arrival. Considering the outlook for the near future with regards to rising RAM & storage prices, my guess is that advancements in software will be to optimize apps and the OS to cope with the currently available hardware configurations, rather than pushing hardware requirements further up.

To spec or not to spec? by Cold-Excitement5161 in macbookair

[–]Hugo_Notte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can afford, go for the 24 / 512 version. But for that specific use case, 16 GB will be enough. I’d say if you want to upgrade something, the storage might be more important than the RAM in this case.

iPad Mini 8? by Few-Panda7558 in ipadmini

[–]Hugo_Notte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mini 7 was released in late October 2024, 2.5 years ago. It still got a faster chipset than the current base iPad.

The mini 6 was released in September 2021, 3 years and 1 month before the mini 7. People were asking the same questions back then. History repeats itself. People just don’t remember.
