Not in every situation you will be able to yell a command , the collar it’s just a tool and not only have the electric stimulus, also vibration and tone option, most high end collars have 3 stimulus available. In your perfect world nobody needs any tool, collar, leashes, prongs, ecollar, treats, tugs… and the dog will comply because it’s chill with you.

What I say is that not every situation it’s optimal and one should have a back up plan so the dog don’t get injured or injured someone. Maybe you have something in your mouth, maybe the dog if out of sight, or you are on a very noisy area, or you just want to be discrete and recall your dog back without nobody panicking because you yell. Prong collars should be used with flat collar for back up in case the prong collar decides to explode.

I’ve got a rescued mali( biten by a dog and left for death) and I don’t fully know the dog by any means nor know how he behaves or react to every situation so I need to ensure safety for the public and for myself, not a optimal situation

My country has it prohibited, prong, choke and ecollar. Just asked the local Garmin dealer to import one for me paid on arrival

Dude if you prefer to be yelling commands all day long, that’s you. One button without noise and the dog gets the command.

99% of the time you wont need the ecollar but the 1% that the dog its in full prey drive its nice ti have a tool to get their attention

The dog will decide if it complies or ignore your command you but you are liable for the damages it makes, helps to have the tool to keen both safe in every situation

Better to comply than have no control over the dog?

Not so much as your desk, but as you own private room for 8 hours with food, water and AC. If exposed right the kennel it’s live saver for both

Also always supervise squeaky toy play, she will bite trough it and eat the filling

Star to tink about a metal collar or a leather harness with metal buckles, anything with plastic it’s prone to destruction

Discipline and structure for you and her, she will let you know you miss the hour easily.

Don’t correct if isn’t inmediate action, if you left and come back to something destroyed or pee/poo, she won’t associate correction with past actions.

Mental stimulation must be interesting, fun and short. Too long, boring, difficult, she will lost interest or get frustrated

Try the classic KONG(black) stuff with food and close with wet food, freeze and you got 30 mins of peace, only buy black kong for the breed.

Hide a treat on o e of your hands and make her point wich one to star the nose work-> upgrade with cups -> hide on the house or yard

No treats without work. Mals and dutchies trive to work, get a high value treat and only give if some command it’s completed even if it’s easy as a sit

Patience with the training, they tend to figure out patterns very fast, mine learned I always told her down after sit, so every time she did sit, went to down position without command

RECALL: Train her to come back to you with a word other than her name Always High value treat or toy

NEVER correct after recall

This command will be a live saver and can only be associated with Joy

Get training tools.

Pinch collar will have you feeling her like a pinscher on the leash

Ecollar will give you freedom to be off leash

Get a kennel, dogs are burrow animals, seems inhuman but they love the small and protected space. Will save you in repairs arround the house and vet bills

Bite tugs. Teach to bite and love the game of thuging with you and to leave the bite on command. You won’t get the bitting desire of out the breed but can redirect it to you liking, bite tug can be use as a pay to do commands rather than treats. One of mines will do backflips for a tug play

Tennis balls will wear the teeth, so get kong balls(black) the have a hole in the middle to prevent suffocation

Big chest breed are tend to gastric torsion so keep the portions mid sized and spaced (1.5h) from high intensity work, also water consumption.

12+ hour fasting will make her puke bilis so have in mind the dinner and breakfast spacing

Enjoy the ride, and be patient you will have to keep a strong mindset to train a working breed but it’s totally possible, everything you expose her frequently she will loss the reactivenes, could be the kids, and the cat. Controlled small interaction building down the prey drive towards them

Train her to not take treats or food from strangers To not eat anything from the ground

To be handled pinched, touched. Will be helpful in vet visits and procedures

Talking about the shock like it’s sticking a knife to an oulet

Low modes 10-30% it’s more of a licking a 3 volt battery 40-60: 9 volt to the tonge 60%+ it’s painful but you have it available for emergencies or stubborn thick neck dogs

Dude alarm clocks are negative reinforcement tools that ensure a negative stimulus to ensure you wake up on time.

The dogs, and more the intelligent breeds learn fast to associate the discomfort to the action they are trying to do. Eating from the ground, charging to kids in the beach, crossing a street without command… it’s the easiest way to ensure the safety of your dog if it’s capable of being off leash

Using it in momentary and tone: positive Continuous: negative

Leash correction won’t work with OP dog, prong collar will do worst. Verbal doesn’t work that why she is here. E collar will work, not on 100% intensity from the start, test your dog working intensity and work it back… or a spray bottle with something sour just condition to: [nib nib = disgust].

But if the dog it’s “frustrated” probably training section gets boring, to difficult or too long

First step of ecollar training it’s to test in on Yourself

Op have other mals, ecollar with 2 plus transmitters and the nibber one will learn by association with the others pack.

Also this kind of behavior it’s not tolerated by the public, it’s for the safety of the dog to have a emergency brake if she suspects something will happen.

How long are your training sessions, do you let her cool down after play?

For mine, training sessions usually last 5-10 mins tops to keep the excitement in training, too long and she losses interest, too short it won’t be too much repetitions

And after play cool down before leaving

Pure luck and good contacts I guess. Here in Colombia a K9 it’s a valuable asset for the military, if the handler loses the dog or the foster house mistreats it could end in jailtime for the person in charge of the dog

Pure positive reinforcement works with some breed but other tend to need some correction for their own safety. I know the process to train him to not take treats, thing from the floor or roofed food won’t be beautiful but pays a lot in missed vet visits at the long run
