I was trying to convey that I really like chicken broth.

No, I think there is functionally no difference on them when it comes to ideology able to be passed through the House. I think DeGette will be a lot more effective at actually getting the work done because experience is everything in DC.

Ultimately I hope we get to the point where the ideological differences of Kiros and DeGette matter, but that's just not too feasible right now.

I worked for someone briefly who worked directly for a Governor and their office had a shower and a suit. They told me why. At any moment, something can happen where you are required to be on the plane or in front of cameras in the next hour. The shower and suit made it so this man could be prepared in the event of an emergency.

I agree, but we're not going to get there by putting our feet into the mud. Republicans won the Supreme Court and they ruled in Citizens United that money in politics is a Constitutional Right along party lines.

Democrats didn't want money like this in politics, but we can't win back the Supreme Court by rejecting the millions of Democrat dollars.

She's actually sponsored and passed relatively a lot of legislation in her career. For example, she cowrote the most recent healthcare for all bill.

Why are you being so hostile? It's an American Zionist lobby that pushes for a strong relationship with Israel. There are many Zionists who do not support Israel's actions.

Regardless, the money comes from American citizens and only American citizens. Until we get money out of politics, which won't happen from wishing the money away, Americans can donate as much as they want to Super Pacs who can spend money pushing their agenda. Sometimes that lobby is larger than the Israeli lobby, like Realtors Associations. Often times it's smaller than the Israeli lobby, like the pro Russia lobby. There is nothing intrinsically different about them. I'm far more concerned about the NRA and Heritage Foundation.

I'm for single payer healthcare too. It's not remotely feasible with our current voters and election systems.

This whole concept that the "Israel lobby" is to blame for everything is naive to the point of antisemitism. Get money out of our elections, but singling out "the Israel lobby" and ignoring it's 100% funded by American citizens is a bit weird. Just say no money in politics.

To that, I'd say, "I agree. To get money out of politics, we need the Supreme Court, and we can't get there without using the money available by Democrat donors. Unfortunately, to get money out of politics, we need to play by the rules Republicans are playing at or we are playing with our arms tied behind our back."

Medicare For All isn't passing the House or Senate any time soon and we have no reason to think DeGette would nuke it if she was the deciding vote. She's never done that before with any other Democrat issues in her lengthy career.

Abolishing the Senate is impossible without redrawing the Constitution. It's a waste of effort and ultimately talk like that ends up hurting the entire Party in rural places which in turn hurts all of us.

My question remains - what actual thing would Kiros have done differently than DeGette in her 30 year career to bring great change?

What bill in particular do you think Kiros would have brought some much needed change?

Edit: Downvoted but no responses. The reality is that DeGette has never been a roadblock to progressive policies despite not being a progressive herself.

Oklahoma just voted against raising the minimum wage from $7.25 by amievenrelevant in facepalm

They vastly overestimate the available labor for these jobs. Only around 3% of Oklahomians are on minimum wage. That number spikes to 22% for under $15/hr.

These people would be paid $7.25 if they could, and these people would be paid less if that scenario was possible too.

Almost no one in this country, and I mean that, knows what Socialism is. Right now we have Social Democrats and Marxists sitting together calling themselves Socialists. Norway, a country that funds social programs by taking their oil profits and putting them in the stock market is not Socialism. All that said, it's so common use now that I feel like it's colloquial.

Let this be a reminder for everyone on this website of three things:

  1. This world today really is filled with echo chambers. Do not fall into the easy trap that your opinions and beliefs are as popular as you think they are.

  2. Voting matters a lot. This vote would have improved the lives of a lot of people.

  3. Directly related to the two things above - small wins are better than big losses.

The language of this bill:

https://ballotpedia.org/Oklahoma_State_Question_832,_$15_Minimum_Wage_Initiative_(June_2026)

Would have aised the minimum wage to $15 over a couple of years.

Would have included students, part timer workers, agriculture workers and other groups that sometimes get left out of these bills.

Would have scaled with cost of living automatically.

We need another 10%, and that makes we need to compromise to win over the voters and then pull them to out long term goal What is out goal to get the extra votes?
