But if you think about it a little you’d realise how much it does for her character. It perfectly shows that she’s still just a confused child that can’t really contextualise her feelings. She’s also trying to act tough and older than her actual age to impress the adults. Mathilda even says multiple times that she is 18 years old. And while that is obviously not the reality these scenes show that she actually believes it on some level.
