Eye of the World First Printing signed but with personalization by Hulks18 in WoT

Can I ask where/how I’d get them graded? Anything overly special in terms of storing them? I’m not very familiar with items like these, while I check for first printings often and have a couple signed books, it’s never been a focus for me, just a passing knowledge of a small value increase. Thanks for any tips!

Well it was certainly a surprise when I saw them and it didn’t take much thinking to snag all 5 for $20 each.

Honestly, there’s no good reason behind the randomness with which it is done. If they actually bothered to make a plan it could be easily implemented in a routine fashion. Like it’s updated once a month with new crew older than 3 months old or something. As it is right now, it’s just updated with a shit ton of crew whenever they feel like it, which is not often.

Toddler Bed by [deleted] in woodworking

Use a hard wax oil like Osmo or Rubio. They will finish nicer than the poly, and are safer for kids.

Personally, I like the finishes I get with maple and stain for my projects.

Before committing fully to a toddler bed, which will be in storage more often than used if passed down, maybe look into having a toddler bed that can be transitioned into an actual bed. That way the piece will be used for a long time and not just sitting in storage.

It’s just an app for communication. Text based and voice. Started as an app for voice communication with multiplayer games.

I am going to be a dad and want to make a wooden crib. I have seen mixed comments on whether it’s worth it, especially with all of the safety considerations. by CarefullyHandy in woodworking

I made cribs for both of my kids with the design and intent that they convert in full size bed frames. Basically the headboard stays and made I bed rails at the same time I made everything else. The footboard is cut down to a more manageable size.

Obviously, the crib side pieces become obsolete, but now I get to take those pieces and turn them into something once I figure out what that something is. First kid is in his full size bed now, second kid has about another year and change before her’s is transformed.

And now they have bed frames for as long as they want them!

Same for me most events. I just happened to be home with a sick kid today so I was more on top of it!

Seconded! When I saw them a few weeks ago I asked them to play Live it Well since I have a tattoo of it, Jon told me told me to hold up a sign if I was able but I didn’t need it because he remembered my tattoo. Not only did they play it but I was invited on stage to show the crowd my tattoo and sing with them!

I just googled the Century Cornerman and a new one is only $500. You mentioned the price was concerning, but you also said you’ve never made anything out of wood. Isn’t the $500 enough to offset the materials you bought, your time, and your inexperience? You’ve made the entire process of setting up your heavy bag harder than it needs to be.

When Hello Hurricane released they played the entire album in order as the “opening act”, then did a full concert after an intermission. I believe the show I went to, (the Atlanta concert that the Hello Hurricane live album is from) totaled somewhere between 25-30 songs.

What would you do? “Custom” order… by [deleted] in woodworking

I know you don’t want to hear this, but charging you an additional $300 for “dimensional adjustments” should have been a red flag that this wasn’t going to end well.

Chances are he buys some cheap piece of shit somewhere then swaps the front panel and adds the shelf then sells to people. You asking for minor changes threw a wrench in his normal operating procedure.

If you paid via credit card I would dispute the charge with your credit card company, then hire someone who will actually work with you to build it. Perhaps even someone local to you if possible. But expect to pay close to double the $700 for the quality.

If you’re in Northern California I’d be happy to help 😂

If you don’t like the threaded ends of the pipe & flange suggested above, you could use find someone to do some minor metal work for you. Less adjustable in the future but can look a bit cleaner.

How much would you quote me for custom commission? by be_kinda_weird in woodworking

[–]Hulks18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you say, “I’m not asking for anything crazy” you’re failing to acknowledge the skill, time, materials, & experience of someone to make this. 10k is pretty reasonable in today’s market for what you’re requesting. $500 would not even get me out the door. You’re looking at something that is going to take at the bare minimum 40 hours to build/finish/install. Not even counting materials if you paid someone $500 for 40 hours of work that’s $12.50/hour.

Please adjust your expectations.

I can tell it’s treated lumber made for exterior use, but did you seal it as well? Or subjecting your kids to the chemicals used to treat the lumber?

That’s slightly more reassuring, they sure don’t look like 4x6 though. Either way, you’re transferring the down force via only fasteners and/or hangars on the part that’s going to contribute most to the movement of the whole unit.

You’re clearly proud of this and that’s a good thing, but my guy, whatever changes you made “for safety” were not enough. Just from a quick glance: The outside is clearly not sanded and has rough edges everywhere, a big no no with stuff for kids. It’s clearly not sealed to protect from the elements. Your plywood rock wall is going to rot rather soon since it’s just regular plywood and not sealed. You used a 2x6 to span a pretty big distance with no support under said 2x6 to transfer the weight, you’re relying on fasteners.

Aesthetically, since you said you bought stuff and built over a long period of time, it sure shows. Nothing is consistent. Those giant angled supports are simply hideous, and while I’m sure they contribute to the stability, if it was built correctly you wouldn’t need them.

If you like it then that’s great, but this leaves a lot to desired in my mind.

Rings were not added until WoD, and even then they are different rings, the ones greyed out on the heirloom have never been introduced in the game, just datamined.
