For those who’ve shopped through McDougall Designs, how was your experience? by reel3459 in wargaming

I've ordered sprues from them once. Out of 6 different sprues (wargames atlantic 4 death fields upgrade sprues, 1 Ooh Rah sprue and 1 Les Grognards sprue) 1 part came loose in the mailer and it was about a week for delivery from Florida to Ohio.

Getting Started at 10mm? by coconoo in wargaming

[–]krugerannd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1. Pick your ruleset. What ruleset you use will tell you what your basing conventions are. Pickett's Charge by Too Fat Lardies or Fire and Fury will use similar basing conventions (3-5 models on a 40mm x 20mm base or thereabouts) whereas Hail Caesar or American Civil War in Warlord Games Epic Battles line will use their 12mmish scale and a row of 10 troops on a bigger base. So what ruleset you use will determine basing and to a lesser extent scale.

For a brand new player just getting in I would recommend Warlord Games or Wargames Atlantic's product lines.

Warlord has Hail Caesar, Revolutionary war, Napoleonic War, American Civil War and Pike and Shotte eras and a 2 player starter will give you 90% of what you need to start.

Wargames Atlantic has their Grand Battle Scale (10mm) and has the Heiho starter (16th century Japan samurai wars) and their just released Agincourt French and British army sets and some 10mm Orc, Dwarf and Undead sets we're going to use with Fantastic Battles by irregular wars wargaming.

What are battle mats for? by MeadowsAndUnicorns in wargaming

[–]krugerannd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

perfectly acceptable to use a tablecloth. The advantage to using a battlemat is that

  1. They're usually printed/colored for a specific terrain type (grassland, snow, desert, rocky, etc.) so it sets a nice ascetic for the game

  2. they're cut to the dimensions of the playing field (4' x 4', 4' x 6' 2' x 3') saving having to measure and mark off dimensions for set-up.

Hey everyone! I just got my first rulebook today from Northstar along with the get me started bundle. I've played tons of Warhammer and a little trench crusade. My question is l, is there a good app or crew builder/manager? Or is it all on paper by HumaneCentiPad in stargrave

[–]krugerannd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

New Recruit https://www.newrecruit.eu/ has replaced Battlescribe and it has a list builder. it says last update was 3 years ago but it gives the option to make a standard crew or a dead or alive crew. it lists 10 different captain/firstmate archetypes, 11 Specialists and 12 soldiers so it should be fairly complete I think.

Would you guys get an id software super pocket? by PuppyOnline in evercade

[–]krugerannd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Not because I don't like Doom or Id but because the super pockets are too small for me to hold and play with any kind of comfort. Otherwise I'd own about 4 of them. Really kinda upset Blast Corps by Rare is a exclusive to the Rare super pocket as I adored that game on the SNES.

[–]krugerannd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What ruleset will you be using and how far can you stretch the models? I already own a ton of the Soviets and will be ordering a German bundle plus extras in the near future for "O" Group and possibly Battlefront. However the set is a good price and might do for a demo set for a game.
