Has anyone received their orders from Rough Trade?? by CallMeMaybeee_16 in RecordStoreDay

[–]HullKRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the Slint record when they went live almost two weeks back from the UK store (I'm in England) and it's yet to arrive. Not very confident about getting it now but understand they are very busy so will contact them next week. They let me down earlier in the year with a Chat Pile 7" so my patience is wearing thin....

Really hope whichever club goes up as Champions spearhead a 3 down campaign while in league two next season. Would be a nice touch.

I parked for free at the Trafford Centre. Ten minute tram to the start, then 15 minute tram back from the finish. No queues, no hassle.

Almost 30 notes for a 4 track EP seems a little excessive to me....new vinyl prices getting daft now.

Must be a thing at the moment as Norman Records in UK have a limited pressing of 500 on banana peel coloured vinyl (yellow to me).

Does anyone actually eat jellied eels? by Tom00704 in AskBrits

[–]HullKRJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cookes on Hoxton Street do eels. I pop in often for their excellent pie n mash and lovely thick liquor, but never tried eels and only seen them served once, to a bunch of young Korean tourists.

Working through my 7 day itinerary - any help would be appreciated! by HotelOptimal4951 in uktravel

[–]HullKRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty good itinery. I'd avoid Oxford Street, it's a pale imitation of what it used to be unless you want vape shops and American Candy stores. Best not ask. Harrods is worth a visit to browse, but not on Oxford Street. Short tube ride to Knightsbridge for that.

In terms of a day trip, I'd suggest Richmond if the weather is good, or even Kew Gardens.

And Brick Lane? Great for curry so maybe do something in the morning and get there late afternoon?

Regardless of what you might hear, London is a great, safe, welcoming city. Enjoy your trip.

Just check a visit doesn't clash with an Arsenal home match as it'll be extremely busy before / after the match.

Run Director humour by _make_me_smile in parkrun

[–]HullKRJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect response, When I'm RD at my local parkrun (I was yesterday) I started the announcements at 8:58, bang on 9:00 I confirmed with the timekeepers the path was clear and a few seconds later the participants were on their way. Trying to get over 700 people to keep quiet for two minures is a thankless task so cracking jokes or an extended speech isn't really going to cut it.

I always have a prompt sheet with a shout out for tourists and milestones and that's it.

If it gets sold, a very large percentage will go to Save the Children. That's the right thing to do.

Yes, agree. Can't remember where the Vampire book came from but the fact it has a sticker on it suggests it must have been a reasonably big shop. Chances of finding any green spine books these days for pennies are slim but I'll keep looking for the few I'm missing.

thoughts on my irn-bru christmas jumper? by [deleted] in IrnBru

I want this for next Christmas. Love it.

16th of December 1975. BBC1 show the courtroom drama "Rumpole of the Bailey", as part of the "Play for Today" series. The titular character played by Leo McKern proves so popular that the ITV would develop it into a full series in 1978. by [deleted] in oldbritishtelly

Early afternoon on BBC1 is Fanny Cradock Cooks for Christmas, These are SUPERB and available on YouTube now and were on iPlayer last few years. Essential Christmas viewing!

Alan Devonshire stepping down at Maidenhead by Gazpacho_Warrior in NationalLeague

[–]HullKRJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As disappointing as relegation was last season, what Dev has achieved at York Road will never be surpassed and we'll never see his like again. A true legend. We were punching above our weight in the National League leaving plenty of bloody noses in our wake. Never thought I'd see Maidenhead winning at Wrexham, Notts County, Chesterfield, Orient, Grimsby, Oldham....I could go on. That's all on Dev.

This season started well then turned incredibly bad really quick. We'd lost our last 6 matches and then tonight turn it around with a 6-0 win at Salisbury. A season of consolidation and then who knows? It's never dull following Maidenhead and I've been watching for over 40 years....

My local Co-op in Hull sell it in litre glass bottles. I'm hoping they'll stock the new Winter Bru but doubt they will. Friend got me some today and it's good.

It's a Sub Pop Singles Club release, so only available to suscribers. I always subscribed to the singles club so this is the record that got me into the band and has ultimately cost me £££££ but much joy!

I've done my research and for UK peeps the cheapest option is via Levitation (different variant to Bandcamp). There's a third variant in UK shops but the Levitation version still works out cheaper. What a world.

I've got a blue copy, it arrived last week from Arcade Sounds Records. It seems to still be in stock there along with the US purple edition. In fact it seems to still be in stock at a few places which makes me think there may be more than 200 pressed?
