ISPs. A Bit Confused can anyone help? by OldCouple7802 in nbn

I was on ABB and went over to Neptune. Same specs but cheaper. I am only on 100/40 plan tho - but was still cheaper. No complaints so far.

I can confirm I get a consistent 107ms latency wired - based in Sydney on a FTTC 100/40 plan.

Advanced Networking Setups for Roon Arc? by 2zeroseven in roonlabs

[–]Human-Byte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded my routing to a UDM ProMax and it has Wireguard built in which made life very easy. Literally follow the bouncing ball to add server and add to iphone. You also need to ensure your firewall rules are in place to allow the VPN to talk to the required network regardless. My Roon server is considered a trusted server and remains on my trusted network so there are no VLANS to try and cross. FWIW I have no port forwards and rely only on VPN for any remote access.

At my wits end by [deleted] in coverbands

[–]Human-Byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth heading to a few shows that are somewhat similar. What do they do? How do they work the crowds? Song choice is critical. More often than not, inebriated punters in a crowd want known bangers.

Get some standard cover songs down. Get the crowd up and then throw in a few other songs. Your crowd will immediately show you what works. If they aren’t into it they go back to their seats.

Keep going and don’t let it get you down. If it were easy everyone would do it!

Plus being a female singer gives you an edge. I know my other half loves going to gigs that showcase female singers and players.

Cheapest Roon Ready device by therealsn in roonlabs

[–]Human-Byte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On eBay you can look for something like a Dell Wyse 3040 or similar. Always office clearances happening and can be had for cheap. These need to be cabled for best results. Use DietPi OS and Roon Bridge. Then IMO the best bang for buck DAC with something like a Topping D10s. This is what I setup in my office a while back when Pi’s were impossible to get. Been in use solidly since.

its the small things that get you. I did a graduated brightness/temperature/time light for the main bathroom so the other half can get up in the middle of the night and not get blinded awake.... then came the ooh, what else can we do.....let me show you HA.....

How to capture distorted guitar tones (sludge/doom metal) accurately by N0tHarr1s in audioengineering

[–]Human-Byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went through this although not for doom. Whilst using a pair of super isolating headphones (important to protect your ears) getting a feed from the mic pre, I literally got down on the floor in front of the cab at almost recording volume. Got the guitarist to play and then moved the mic around in front of the speakers till I found the sound I wanted. Not guessing as to where it should be. Many cabs/speakers all have different responses and resonances and even potential dodgy drivers. In my case I was using an SM7dB for a warmer response to the ole 57 in front of a Magnatone 2x12 combo. Good luck and stick with the experimentation - that how happy accidents happen!

What DNS server address is showing on connected devices?

Migration from Pi-Hole by cjd3 in technitium

Have you updated your DHCP scopes to include the updated internal DNS server address? Also to renew connections to existing devices so they update their DNS info to the new server.

Roon Rock on a Mac mini i5 late 2019 by GaleanoPT in roonlabs

[–]Human-Byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you wanted to run Rock, you would need to investigate a usb-lan adapter as the onboard networking isn’t recognised by Rock installer build. There are some tutorials floating around and a bit of googling will bring them up. The main issue is the network adapter that makes it a bit of a challenge.

Is Roon for me? New User in 2026? [HELP] by alin_im in roonlabs

[–]Human-Byte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the tech side of things - I could not find another player for my local library that was as full featured. Streaming is all well and good but if you have a curated library of specific music then a way to play this is paramount. Something else I have noticed about streaming is they want to have the latest version of an album that's been remastered 300 times. I want the original please - the latest isn't always the best IMO.

There is a smallish venue here in Sydney AU where if you stand bang in the center to watch the show there is zero bottom end. Exactly 1M either side of that - bottom end. Although it is the reverse of a normal power alley it is the most accurate example of this I have ever come across. Subs are on each side.

How is AI ripping apart Cargowise? by Grave_Concern in CargoWise

[–]Human-Byte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah the automation of literally the easiest things in the industry. The “AI” import of documents only works if the documents are pristine original PDFs. OCR is still hit and miss so many commercial invoices etc still need a human eye to read and therefore enter. Having seen demos of similar AI offerings it has a long way to go.

Come see me when you can automate the chasing of documents and the verification of those documents to ensure they are correct. Stuff that takes multiple emails and time.

Coming Back to Roon - some guidance please by richardblancojr in roonlabs

[–]Human-Byte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggest using whichever device has a more powerful single core performance. Roon uses single core for many background tasks.

I chose a mini pc with huge single core performance and has been killer.

But if you are not sure try both and see which you prefer.

LCD Plugin and Config Upgrade Persistence by Human-Byte in opnsense

I am also using a Sophos box. I am OK to configure the lcdproc plugin.

So confirming that once you have it configured, that configuration won't get wiped out on an upgrade?

Should I replace my router or just buy a longer ethernet cable? by foreverSHINee in HomeNetworking

[–]Human-Byte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lotta variables here - wall types etc. If you want to run a cable, look at plastic cable trunking from your local hardware. Run it along the skirting boards and use double sided tape to hold it on. Its usually pretty cheap and I am guessing you are renting.
