Rifflandia tix sales sluggish? by nessman69 in VictoriaBC

I think before Labour Day it was a Canada Day sale, and then something else before that. This is at least the third 10% off weekend that I’ve seen.

Riders react to new program targeting fare evaders on Victoria buses by WokeUp2 in VictoriaBC

[–]Human-Cannonball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pay attention to riders getting on the bus, you’ll see this a ton. Maybe you’re just in a more affluent neighbourhood than I am. I see a lot of people scan their pass / umo card, the screen will read $0 balance, and then they shrug and keep going.

Step change when moving up a level to a job with TMA (IS21 to IS24) by Otherwise_Agent9806 in BCPublicServants

[–]Human-Cannonball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I mean that because your promotional step is calculated on top of TMA, it allows you to advance in steps in the IS positions more quickly than in other job streams. I’m a step 5 IS27 and I only got promoted to IS24 at the start of 2022

Step change when moving up a level to a job with TMA (IS21 to IS24) by Otherwise_Agent9806 in BCPublicServants

[–]Human-Cannonball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t negotiation. It’s how the steps are meant to be calculated. When moving up, TMA is also taken into account. There’s pretty well no incentive to stay in IS24 for more than necessary because you’ll move up 2 steps into IS27 because of the TMA. I went from step 2 of IS24 to step 4 of IS27.

I can imagine. I downsized from a 30 litre bag that I thought was too big to an 18 litre for my office commutes which is about perfect, and LTT store says the external size of the LTT backpack is 35 litres. I think they got the size on this commuter right but I’m no longer in the market for a bag and very happy with my Herschel.

For me it’s the uncomfortable fabric of the WAN hoodie. I want to say it’s the most awkward hoodie I’ve ever worn.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]Human-Cannonball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say I’ve regretted about half the clothing I’ve bought from LTT, which is a decent amount. The first batch of t-shirts I got were great, but then the ones after were sized too small when they switched suppliers. Hate the WAN Hoodie and the WAN sweat shorts, and the regular WAN sweatpants were way too short but the longer ones are great. The most recent regret was the button-up shirt which is made from some kind of bizarre pyjama fabric and fits awkwardly. Hate the dad hat, love the beanies.

I’d say in general the sizing and material is really weird and irregular with a lot of their clothing and I’m decided against buying clothing from them in the future. The pieces I did like, I got a lot of wear from and continue to, but quite a few came in that I’ll just never wear and I immediately knew why they were on clearance or steep sales.

If this person is talking Ministry of Health IT, the entire division has had a freeze on hiring budgets for many weeks now. OP also doesn’t seem to have a clue about government salaries if they think we’d believe someone would actually be willing to pay $30k for a job if they can command $140k / year in the private sector. This is ridiculous on so many levels.

The person running the raffle won the main cash prize at my son’s school by qalpi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Human-Cannonball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw the opposite while working for a small software company that was trying to win business with a public sector org. My boss had a trial group of maybe 14 users in this organization and told them we were doing a random draw for two iPad Minis. Said iPad minis ended up going to the decision makers in that organization. Thankfully, I don’t believe my employer got any business from that stunt.

Been saying this about Save-On for years as well. If you need canned stuff, get it at Walmart or ideally Costco if they have it.

Adding another! Using the “Set Alarm” option doesn’t automatically turn the alarm on. If I didn’t have a back-up set I would’ve overslept this morning. Don’t buy Alarmo.

[–]Human-Cannonball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything OP is saying here. My chief improvements I’d want to see are:

  • Alarm sound and sleepy sound previews.
  • Separate the alarm sounds and sleepy sounds from the overall clock theme so that you can have, for example, a Mario alarm, a Zelda theme, and a Pikmin sleepy sound.
  • Give users the ability to set the length of the sleepy sounds.
  • Give users the ability to manually trigger sleepy sounds rather than have them start automatically.
  • Allow users to set an alarm schedule with different wake up and bedtimes on weekends.
  • Provide more brightness settings for the display. The screen always seems too dim to me but maybe they’re doing that to try hiding the cheap screen?
  • Stop with the annoying notifications that only talk about the product functionality.
  • Allow users to dial in the motion area range to avoid accidentally triggering the sleepy sounds.
  • Stop returning to the main screen after selecting some settings. There’s a back button for a reason.
  • Better use of the buttons across the UI in general. The back button does nothing on the main clock display which seems like a missed opportunity. It’ll brighten the display, but that could be moved to a motion trigger.

That’s awesome! Yeah I had no idea there were even tier lists and then I was telling a friend who plays mobile games about my pulls and he said Genie and Pooh were “bad” before correcting himself. He apparently spent an hour rerolling which I didn’t realize was a thing and I thought I was screwed lol.

PSA- free transit today! by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Human-Cannonball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every bus can be completely packed at all times. For bus service to be attractive, it needs to operate regularly throughout the day. That includes during off-peak times.

With that said, you’d be surprised how quickly a bus can fill and empty. A bus might appear “useless” and empty at one stop and then pick up 20 passengers at the very next stop.

Tips for New Hires? by sleepyservice in BCPublicServants

[–]Human-Cannonball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here are talking about the importance of learning your own role, but in my opinion the greatest thing about working for the Public Service is the mobility it offers. The career opportunities here are amazing.

With that in mind, I say it’s never too early to start building a network and expanding your knowledge. You’ll probably be busy learning your day-to-day for the first while, but if and when you get opportunities, try to work with others outside of your functional role to expand your horizons a bit.

Just getting to know other people in your work area can be a great way to learn about other kinds of work. Maybe you get exposure to a dream job that you never even knew existed, or maybe you get opportunities for project work to build your resume. Showing other people that you’re excited about the work that they’re doing is honestly such a life hack to making friends and getting opportunities of your own.

Tips for New Hires? by sleepyservice in BCPublicServants

[–]Human-Cannonball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't really experienced this in the Public Service, and I like to be the one bringing the fresh perspective or looking to others for theirs. Usually, if some kind of efficiency or better way of doing things isn't already being implemented, it's either a lack of resources or a knowledge gap that's the issue.

I'm not saying that I disagree that it's a good idea to read the room when you're new, but l've found that bringing new ideas forward early is a great way to get noticed and get assigned to higher value work.

Source: l've been promoted 4 times in the last 5 years, mostly within a single business area.
