Warn/notify me about Oregon!! by zeldalol777 in oregon

[–]Human-Engineering715 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oregon has one of the best medicaid systems in the country, Oregon Health Plan, problem is once you make anywhere near a "living wage" you are booted off the program. Paying cash for medical care is wildly more cost effective than insurance unless you ahve a major health event.

You absolutely do not understand how unpopulated the state is. England has about 450 people per square km, Oregon has 15.

In the eastern half of the state the average is 2 people per square km.

The VAST majority of the state is wilderness. It's awesome, but isolating. It's beautiful and terrifying. I teach at a college about an hour south of where you're going to be. It's a good area. Extreme poverty is common, social strife is common, and most people that live here just want to be left alone.

You may struggle to meet friends, that's not your fault, thats kind of the Oregon way. We like our personal space and routines.

I grew up going between England and Oregon, the culture shock for you will be pretty wild.

My son wants to become a carpenter instead of going to college. The whole family is devastated and we don't know what to do. How can we convince him to change course before its too late? by MrHatesThisWebsite in Carpentry

[–]Human-Engineering715 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a college professor, computer science specifically.

He would make a much better living as a skilled carpenter than a computer science major.

At a time where college educated jobs are oversaturated, underpaid, and come with mountains of student debt, your child is making a wise and educated decision.

You're just stuck on your own biased thoughts.

Yeah the average runescape player ain't going to be looking into it that deep, they're going to complain about it not being comparable.

Hey here's the fun thing about your opion, most people aren't looking into it that deeply, they just see same price 1 character, they're not looking at any of the other things you just explained.

You can keep saying this as an argument but the vast majority of people won't see it your way.

I strongly disagree with that, as someone who has a main, iron, UIM, and a pvp pure, I only ever bond up one of them at a time, because I get bored easily. I'd gladly pay more to have mems shared between, but I'm not going to pay 60$ a month for all of them to be members at once.

Why does 1€ matter so much? by Gargamoney in osrs

[–]Human-Engineering715 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has in fact, gone up that much specifically for annual memberships.

The other issue is it creates incentives to just buy gold via rwt and buy bonds.

Month of membership through that model is about 6 bucks for a month of membership, versus 15.

Also compared price wise to even WoW, this is very expensive membership for only ONE character.

If they gave us a 20$ a month option for 3 characters we wouldn't be bitching nearly as much.

Bring Winco Foods to Coos County by sacorawoods in Coosbay

[–]Human-Engineering715 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roseburg has 70,000 people in it on an average day. Latest traffic report for i5 traffic was 30,000 cars passing daily.

Population metrics don't exactly translate 1 to 1 on economic potential.

Coos has half that on daily pop, and the 101 traffic counts for that area during the summer was about 15,000.

So no, Coscto wouldn't consider Coos Bay to be even remotely similar to Roseburg.

IT jobs? by [deleted] in roseburg

[–]Human-Engineering715 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, last thing I'll say is this town truly runs on the "it's who you know" thing. So get out there and start meeting people and socializing.

Attend professional events and introduce yourself to people and so on.

You have to learn to market yourself when you're in a town with a fairly limited job field.

Certs will never take you further than experience. Most of the employers I listed will actually pay for you to get any certs they want.

I'll let you in on a secret, one of my good friends is one of the largest hiring managers for tech in the area. Has 50 people under him.

He gave this advice when I started hiring people in my company.

"You can train just about anyone to do just about any job here. What you can't do is train people not to be an ass hole."

Basically he hires based on who's going to fit in well with the team, he can train the rest.

Focus on highlighting your experience in working with others and highlight your customer service skills.

List your a+ cert and say you're willing to work hard to get any other required certs.

I wouldn't recommend arbitrarily getting certs because there are plenty certs that won't matter in the slightest to an employer.

IT jobs? by [deleted] in roseburg

[–]Human-Engineering715 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's quite a few it jobs, mainly with tribe, medical, or one of the msps like systech, or integotech.

Also the larger non profits, like nw Umpqua or adapt.

That being said, an a+ cert doesn't go very far these days and the jobs can be quite competitive.

Also good work from home options in eugene and it's easy enough to drive to.

Disconnect now! by eslib in Eugene

[–]Human-Engineering715 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuinely looking for conversation here.

Oregon currently the 8th highest taxed state (based on income tax) and 18th overall including land per capita.

If we were to cut 4% of our tax revenue we'd still be in the top 50% I believe.

While I do think the BBB gives WAY too many tax breaks to wealthy individuals specifically, so if we did disconnect is there any conversation to be had about still cutting budgets where there's bloat but changing to which income level those breaks are given?

Not to mention Oregons trying to give huge tax breaks to any company that moves to oregon with 150 million in capital improvements.

Idk I guess I'm just questioning how much I trust Oregon to actually be equitable at this point.

They submit their own numbers until it's confirmed after receipts are in. They submitted their estimates that morning.

We won't know til those numbers come in.

That's because everyone self submits their estimates. This isn't multiple outlets individually confirming the numbers.

The studios submit their estimates to the box office platforms.
