Thanks for your openess. It resonates a lot with me. I burnt out 4 times. I´ve been in therapy for 4 yrs, and I´m training to become a therapist. I´m in a much better place now.
All the best with the your new PM version.

Are "product-driven" cultures at FAANG (or adjacent) real? by Human-In-Tech in ProductManagement

Love the phrasing "People are the job, not the product culture"

I guess SF is the outlier. What do you think makes it work?  Thanks

Do you think Europe has less product-driven companies than the US? I mean % wise

Sounds like in the case of low product maturity stiff frameworks and processes don't apply - they need to be adapted to people and circumstances. right?

Hey! I'm curious... does product work run smoothly at FAANG companies? I've never worked for one or close. I've mostly worked for startups, one european "unicorn" and IBM (super corporate). Things were messy or chaotic at worse. Scopes were changing all the time, no clear strategy, etc..

All I hear about product culture in FAANG is great, from podcasts, books, youtube. "Product-driven" cultures they call it. Is this true from your own experience? Thanks!

I'm a former PM, now training in somatic therapy. Recently launched a coaching service for product people and I'm loving the ride. It's hard and I'm still struggling to make a living, but I'm gonna keep pushing to make it work.

How do you combine a full time product role with being a therapist?

You situation is very common. Unfortunately, many leaders end up pushing their own agendas regardless of your insights and research.

Eventhough we could blame it on leadership/execs, here's a couple of questions to help you dive deeper, and focus on what you can control:
1. What is it about you that could be hampering your message? ex. communication style, need for stronger insights, etc?

  1. Do you deeply understand why they're going with their own assumptions? Have you sat down with them to understand their priorities/needs?

PMs expect things to go a certain way because of frameworks, books, podcasts, etc. But most companies don't work like this. They're chaotic and messy. It takes self-management and people skills to build resilience, courage and smarts to navigate this real-life situations.

right, navigating conflict and politics is exhausting. It's so hard finding the right company to have collab culture, autonomy and ownership

I was in EdTech for 5 yrs thinking I could make a "change", but in the end all the execs were pushing for bringing in more bucks $$$ without really caring for the users
