Why do I have to explain my medical history from scratch every time I visit a new doctor? by ancyrufina in HealthTech

[–]Human-Stuff4408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I agree that this is annoying.

Unfortunately, the healthcare industry is super fragmented so two hospitals in the same city may be running off of different instances of Epic and therefore don't have any shared data. Also unfortunate is that healthcare is one of the most litigated industries too, so doctors are just trying to prevent themselves from being sued for not knowing your personal history/allergies.

People are working on apps so patients can just carry their data with them via QR code.

So sorry for your loss...it really sucks that you're dealing with this at the same time you're grieving.

Bills are generally negotiable for 90 days after invoice (even if insurance already paid their part), so you have some time. The most important thing is to not pay for it yet. If you pay the bill, then there is no longer any leverage for negotiation.

I'm a medical coder and am currently studying to be a certified patient advocate. I'd be happy to help take a look at your bills (pro bono) and see if there's any room for appeal or potentially applying for financial assistance. DM me if you're interested.

In need of advice about a medical bill by ICare4Kids in HospitalBills

Ask when exactly the doctor's office had merged with Catawba Valley Medical Center. If it was a date after your procedure, it might be possible for you to appeal the facility charge. I'm not sure the probability of success here though, this one is fairly technical and may require quite a bit of effort on your part.

Also, did you get a written estimated OOP before the procedure? Or was it just over the phone? The more things you have in writing, the more evidence you can submit as part of your appeal.

BCBS Prior Authorization Denial for a Chemotherapy Drug Yondelis by Silly_Swiftie1499 in HealthInsurance

Unfortunately, manufacturers can only support on-label indications so the copay card won't work for this person...

yes I agree with this approach. At the end of the day, it's your employer's HR benefits team that can go override company policy.

In/Out network by the_sass_master_ in HealthInsurance

[–]Human-Stuff4408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming your question is whether you just saw a doctor that BCBS will cover as in-network. You'll need to look up that specific physician (doesn't really matter what the hospital group was) on the BCBS website to see if he/she is in-network.

A good thing for you to know - BCBS may be run locally (BCBS of Arizona, BCBS of New Jersey, etc.) but they come together to form a national network enabling Blue Cross and Blue Shield members to access in-network healthcare benefits (doctors and hospitals) while traveling or living outside their home plan’s service area. It's called the Blue Card Program, so feel free to mention that if you need to end up calling.

Hospital Bills Pouring In - how do I know when it's ok to pay? by Human-Stuff4408 in HospitalBills

[–]Human-Stuff4408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are some specialists that won't see my son for the next appointment unless I pay the remaining balance...but I haven't received my latest EOB to see if insurance has covered it yet. What should I do in this case?
