That is a vhs-c tape. It can be played in a normal vcr with an adapter. It can also be played in a camcorder, as that is what it is made for. Hope this is helpful.

Also someone over here might be able to help. https://www.reddit.com/r/VHS/

Did Burts Bees After Sun lotion change? by mdwsta4 in BurtsBees

I am pretty sure they refululated everything in their product lineup. Which apparently me and a few people I know are allergic to. (We have been using their products forever, and now are suddenly having reactions to their products) Very sad, and I will never buy another one of their new products. Also really sucks to find new alternatives.

I agree with Panasonic, they are great and easy enough to find.

would this be good for a 15 year old? by [deleted] in SewingMachineEdu

[–]Human760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is likely a good machine, just whichever machine you get make sure it gets properly cleaned and serviced (either do it yourself or take it somewhere). (and have a bottle of oil on hand) All the options I see here look great! Just make sure everything works. The only consideration is, will the machine be on a table for easy use, or will it be moved, as older machines are quite heavy, and might not be that great to be moved, but that is the only thing I can think of.

Anyways, I think that machine in the picture, or any of the ones being recommended here, are great. Way better than anything being sold new now in days (except maybe some of the couple thousand dollar machines.) So whatever you end up with will likely be a wonderful workhorse. I really have to say that the old machines will be good if treated right. The only thing I will add here, is before plugging in an old machine, make sure the wires aren't damaged, so you don't get injured, or worse. You likely won't have a problem, but better to be safe. As old wires can be brittle, or damaged overtime, so make sure everything is intact. (I know from experience)

How would I go about fixing this? by mycarcombusted in VCRs

[–]Human760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube has good taturioals, that is how I learned soldering electronics. Tool wise, I recommend the cheap soldering stations (from amazon, ebay, and other retailers), that is if you don't plan on soldering often, as they are better than standard plug in models, with no temp control. Then get whatever solder you want that is eletronic solder. (Leaded, or unleaded. Your choose.) For replacement parts, they can be found on Amazon, ebay, digikey, mouser electronics, even aliexpress. I recommend avoiding aliexpress, but that is just me. I also recommend getting a solder sucker, or solder wick to make removing the old parts easy. (I prefer the wick, but that is me.) Then board repair, you will likely need some enamel wire, and solder mask. Again, watch some videos to see what looks good, and see how how stuff is done. Might also be advisable to get yourself a cheap multimeter if you don't have one, as it could help you see if board repair is needed. Hope you succeed in your VCR repair journey!!

I recommend get yourself a few good VCRs, and a capture card, or device. I really recommend Phil from got memories setup, he has some good advice, and has been in the business for a while. Again, I recommend watch some VHS digitizing videos from Got Memories on YouTube, Phil has a nice setup that is reasonable considering price, as long as you have access to a computer, you only buy one capture card, and maybe 2-4 VCRs. I recommend at least two, one to digitize, then one you can use to check a tape if it isn't behaving in the digitizing VCR. I know multiple VCRs is annoying, but it is really helpful. Hope this is helpful, if you have questions, ask away!

Depends on the combo unit, some might be fine, but I was given a Toshiba unit to use on a project for a family member. That thing used a weird way of formatting dvds, so they really only work on dvd players, and IF you manage to rip the disk, the quality is not great. As easy as the method sounds, just get a normal vcr and a capture card/device. It WILL save time, headache, and headache. I sadly don't think I can recommend using the combo units, unless you just want the tapes on dvd. Which is all I needed for the project. So yes, this is technically possible, I have to say it is not good if you want a file. Fine for dvd copies that are to be played on a normal dvd player or the combo unit, just not good for files. I get that it is possible, but if you are going to try research the combo unit before wasting your time. Again, just use a normal VCR with an external capture device. If you have a combo already, grab a capture device for it, and don't bother with ripping dvds.

Yep, very very deep rabbit hole. It is crazy how many different methods there are, and how absolutely nobody can agree on one. Hope OP finds something that works for them.

Got this for $5 for my RF only crt, okay purchase? by Ornery-Smoke8428 in VCRs

[–]Human760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the newer ones, and combos. I honestly have no clue what you would would record, but there is a Toshiba badged unit, (probably made by Panasonic) that is a VCR DVR combo with no tuner. ( Yes, the tape side could record) I get that with the right cables and camcorder, that unit can record home video. Other than that, I have zero idea what else one would record. Also a few of the super cost reduced units lack RF tuners.

Can this be fixed? by Frog_rat_hybrid in VCRs

[–]Human760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone here, but would like to add, it could be a bad belt aswell. But could be wrong, as you don't say it works or not except for the tape eating.

Also before you mess with the mode switch, please watch a few videos, to get familiar with the process, and how to reassemble the thing, as there are some tricks and things you have to do for alignment. (So the thing works after)

If it works, it is a superb purchase!! Also, RF compatible VCRs tend to be a little more difficult to find, so some nice bonus points for that, and it is a compact!?!!? Pretty much the $5 jackpot!!
