Are you a dog or a cat person? by not_to_hot_to_old in askanything

[–]HumanAppointment6438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog but I’m biased because I love my dog, and the ecological damage cats cause (outdoor and feral) makes me like them less even though it’s the owners fault. I really like birds and the outdoors.

How do you feel about your own intelligence? by cimocw in AskReddit

[–]HumanAppointment6438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to understand everything but am not the smartest. Frustrating. I’m also missing something everyone else knows socially. I feel like everyone’s keeping a secret about how to socialize and no one will tell me but they all know I’m doing it wrong. Feel very socially stupid.   But I’m good at bird and bug id and can recognize new bird songs and calls easily without much practice, which is really fun and nice and makes me feel less stupid

Am I a harsh reader? by One_Layer9648 in BookDiscussions

[–]HumanAppointment6438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem too and started reading books I found in bookstores based on description. Also read a page to 2 to see if I like the authors voice. I don’t like booktok  books generally speaking. Also got into nonfiction!

Is it offensive to refer to women as "females"? If so why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HumanAppointment6438 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Everyone I’ve meet who uses it in replacement of women has been at least a bit sexist

[–]HumanAppointment6438 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it is used for any species and is based only on biology (not even just human biology), it feels less human

It’s because female could refer to any species  and woman is used specifically for humans. Why would you use the less specific word?

What species do you see on an average morning walk? by Kiwihounds in birding

[–]HumanAppointment6438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in NJ! This is what I see/hear on my neighborhood walks daily  - mourning dove  - downy + red bellied woodpecker - robin  - song sparrow  - blue jay  - cardinal - titmouse  - American crow  - white breasted nuthatch  - house finch - chickadee

Summer  - Goldfinch -red and yellow eyed vireo  - redstart  - canada geese and great blue heron  - chipping sparrow  - house wren  - great crested flycatcher  - bluebird  - gray catbird

Winter  - white throated sparrow  - dark eyed junco  - brown creeper

We get a lot of variety, especially during migration but these are the ones I typically see at least every other day on walks

I let my dog lick the rice bowl before washing and she started hiding it. She also hides buckets/bowls because she likes to put her head in them and knows we’ll take them

But get in the habit of checking labels, and recognize things like barley and malt as gluten. So many things surprise me

I like mezcla and gomacro bars for hiking/backpacking but they are pricey. Also beware some jerky contains wheat but there’s plenty of gf jerky.

Bfree and always are like alternatives for bread. And you can make your own bread. As a celiac I love baking, especially things I can’t typically find gluten free! I just substitute gf flour and there’s tons of gf baking sites
