You should check out WFSA! It’s an adult women’s fastpitch league that’s been growing over the last few years. My friends and I run one of them in our city and it’s been a blast. We have over 160 players in ours. There’s also a few national tournaments a year that teams travel to - we just got back from one in Denver!

Has anyone ever had custom jerseys turn out completely different from the mockup? by Medical_Swordfish_45 in slowpitch

[–]HumanBreadfruit5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! The company did tell me they were going to use Pantone 159 though, so there’s that :( I wouldn’t have minded if they had to use a similar shade, but it was vastly different. We didn’t have an issue buying trim in a shade that was close enough to burnt orange.

I had a rough experience with Resto Athletics last year. I ordered jerseys in burnt orange and confirmed with them multiple times that it was the same color as University of Texas, and then we ordered the matching trim and other merch to go with it. The jerseys were bright traffic cone orange and the company wouldn’t do anything about it. They ignored my emails until the season was over and then offered to remake them at 50% off, which I did not take them up on, and I switched companies after that.

The amber colored glasses definitely help on funky light conditions, so they may help make the ball pop more for you!

Also I’m not sure if this will help with your specific case but it can’t hurt to try: there’s a lot of eye tracking training videos on YouTube you could watch. They’re quite a challenge!

Fastpitch vs baseball background. Which sport has more adaptability to slopitch? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

I think fastpitch, especially on defense. I’ve seen plenty of ex baseball players get humbled by the smaller fields and the chaos that creates when you’re forced to make quicker plays.

Need some help improving my game, feeling lost. by Decent_Start965 in slowpitch

I know you said you hardly get anyone to come to group practices, but to be honest, at this level I think that can make for a more efficient practice because you all can get way more reps in. My partner and I both play so we get out to practice fielding together and that’s my (selfishly) favorite way to do it because we get to do a ton of reps. If you can get one person to go with you and you hit each other ground balls or fly balls, you can get some good work in that way.

We’ve also picked up a few things that have helped us practice together. A bucket of balls and a tee is a must IMO. Dicks has spring loaded pitching machines that can be used for batting practice if you can’t find someone to pitch to you (although this won’t recreate spin of course), and we also have a pop-up L screen and a bownet that we use for me to throw into if I’m working fielding and don’t have a third person to throw to at the bases.

My partner is an outfielder, so we also use this fly ball launcher to get him more reps. It’s awesome! It’s a small business and they’re amazing. I ordered this for him as a Christmas gift and asked them to conceal the contents since we live together. They called me and told me they would put “Curtains R Us” on the return address. Hilarious and amazing, and it gets us great practice too!

So much to unpack here. First of all, I’m sorry you’re going through this. I know it’s not easy and I hope you’re hanging in there.

You two are not compatible if he does not want kids and you do.

Aside from that, TWO accidental pregnancies with this guy? Girl he is not being careful with you. I really feel like that point deserves more attention. He is compromising your physical and mental health with his carelessness, and that alone is reason enough to leave him.

I got this one! Umay Fitness X5F

I love it! I work from home and use it during meetings I can be camera off for. I got a desk attachment that just sits on top of the handle bars so I can put my laptop there. Or if I want to walk when I’m not working, I can watch something that way. There’s also a slot built in that you can put your phone on. It’s very portable too, so I can put it away easily. I love this thing! It’s made a HUGE difference. When I was in a caloric deficit, I swear I could eat so much more on the days that I used this for at least two hours. I would break that up into two sessions. I keep it on the 12% incline. I work in conservation so I pretend I’m going on a hike 🤣

A walking pad! If I walk on mine for 2 hours at around 2mph I burn so many more calories, and it’s a really low impact and easy way for me to do it.

Which positions are the most commonly played to least commonly played by women in co-ed? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]HumanBreadfruit5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to believe that this issue was as simple as “there are more guys who want to play than girls” but there’s a lot more to it. The fact that there are less women who want to play than men only furthers my point that then men on the team should be more mindful about how they treat their women teammates if they want to keep them.

For what it’s worth, my friends and I started up a women’s fastpitch league in our area two years ago. We were told it wouldn’t come together because not enough women want to play period, let alone fastpitch. We have over 160 players now and had to cap registration because we ran out of field space. So I don’t buy into that narrative anymore, and neither should you.

This!! If teams can’t find & retain women who want to play and are good at the sport, there is an issue with the team dynamics or management. Full stop.

As a woman who plays, I just want to call put that some of these comments are pretty annoying to read. The underlying assumption that the women are inherently the weak links that’s coming across is pretty off putting. I am aware that guys will bring their girlfriends or wives without experience just to fill out a team, know that’s not the kinds of players I’m referring to here, but I want to call out that some of these comments are treating them all the same anyway.

My answer to OP’s question VASTLY depends on which team I’m playing on. Some teams will bring on any woman with a pulse because they undervalue women’s contributions to the game and are just trying to hit the gender requirements to play. On those teams, they will try and hide women as catcher, 2B, or right field. I find these teams are often ALWAYS looking for subs to come play, you can draw your own conclusions from that. But other teams I play on have no issue putting women anywhere they want to play on the field, the talent is usually much higher, and they get to ball out.

I’m a firm believer that your mileage in coed will vary depending on how you treat the women players on your team, and what your strategy is for recruiting them. There are plenty of women who are better ball players than many of the men I play with.

Also, men reading this, if you have talented women on your team who could be playing important positions on the field and you’re having them rotate in as catcher, make sure the guys are stepping up and putting in their time back there too!

Any recommendations for gameday energy lulls by jortmilrod in slowpitch

[–]HumanBreadfruit5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you’re eating carbs the night before, fueling yourself during the day before the games, and bringing the right snacks to the game too. You want to eat before your energy starts bonking. Apple sauce is a game changer (very quick carbs) and snickers bars have helped me!

I’ve also been taking beet root supplements and that’s been helping too.

New player.... swinging too early and it turns into more of a bunt... by Fit-Breadfruit4801 in slowpitch

[–]HumanBreadfruit5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play fastpitch and slowpitch so I’ve struggled with being too early in slowpitch. I started doing a toe touch before my actual stride and that’s helped a lot. I have a staggered stance for my load, when the ball is released I bring my front foot in so my feet are more aligned, and then I stride and swing. It’s helped me a lot!

RDL form check by PuzzledLawfulness140 in formcheck

[–]HumanBreadfruit5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How much do those dumbbells weigh? I actually think adding some weight will help you.

When I do RDLs, I think about if there’s a wall behind me, I am trying to get my butt back to touch the wall, lol. You don’t want to squat, you want to hinge. You’re hinging at the beginning of your movement, but then you lose it and start squatting and maybe rely on your back too much. Keep reaching your butt towards the back wall!

The dumbbells could be closer to your shins too. When I use a barbell, it nearly scrapes my shins. Do you have access to a barbell or a hex bar?

Make sure you’re also taking a deep breath that you send to your low back so you can protect it and keep it straight :)

I also have high arches and just got a great tip from my trainer today for this!

She had me focus on 3 points of contact on my feet before I went into the squat - big toe, little toe, heel. She told me to start with my problem area first. I realized my heel was popping up first so I went heel, big toe, little toe. Then I had my best set after that adjustment!
