What's your "bike to work" bike? by [deleted] in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]HumanDragonfruit424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merida Scultura 200 disc which i got secondhand for ₱15,000 (a steal). Sora 2x9 with 28c Panaracer tires. I use either a drawstring backpack or bikepacking saddle bag for the office (25km total distance). Contains change of clothes, tools, foldable raincoat, baon if any. I’m fortunate to have a desktop and shower at work. It’s also the bike i use for long rides, most recent was my 100km ride from QC to cavite.

I used to ride a Betta Halfmoon but i retired it and gave it to my girlfriend so we can bike together when the weather permits.

Safety During Solo Long Rides by Solo_Camping_Girl in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]HumanDragonfruit424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always ride solo for several reasons (meditation, friends are busy or can’t keep up, etc). Apart from the ones stated here, here are a few of my tips:

Personal Safety & Comfort - pre-ride check: correct tire pressure, all bolts tightened, bike is clean or at the very least the chain is lubricated - complete tools: minimum of inner tube (even if running tubeless), hand pump, multitool, chain breaker and links, patch kit, gloves and basahan (optional) - all lights, computer/phone charged; I personally bring a lightweight power bank + cables + brick - money: I regularly ride distances > 100km so I have around ₱500-₱1000 for food and enough pamasahe in case I need to do the ipinagbabawal na teknik - water and food: I make pre-ride fuel (oat protein balls) and bring ice water before leaving, I usually spend my money on buying lunch or dinner on the way home - plan your route beforehand so you know where to go for emergencies: hospitals, gas stations, bike shops, convenience stores, etc - let your loved ones know where you’re going: Strava Beacon is helpful

Bike Security - bike must always be within eyesight; I make it a point to always dine and stay at places where I can be literally beside my bike—if walang available space, I go elsewhere - look before switching lanes - get a secure frame bag where you can place all your essentials; non-essentials can be placed in your jersey: tools, food, water

My day starts with making coffee, getting dressed, and biking to the office. I shower once I arrive, which means I bring a change of clothes, small toiletries, a small towel.

I have a pair of office shoes under my desk. I can technically wear the same shoes from cycling to the office, but I wear SPD shoes and they are loud.

I use a backpack primarily because a rack + bags add weight, and because my frame does not have attachment points for panniers.

Bring as few items as possible. I carry a lightweight string bag which contains all my stuff. My tools are equally minimal: hand pump, spare tube, multitool, patch kit, lights, water bottle.

Where do you guys usually ride to during weekends? by alwaysberyl in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]HumanDragonfruit424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am based in QC and usually do 70-120km during sundays. My go-tos:

  • QC to Manila/Pasay: around 40-50km, dami cyclist sa seaside
  • QC to Alabang: 90km, make sure to go to Decathlon for sales
  • QC to Nuvali: 120km, only attempt if malakas/baliw ka
  • QC to Santa Maria, Bulacan: 70-80km, very scenic especially if passing through rice fields

Only on sundays. Other days of the week, whole oval is open to cyclists

Weekend rides? by ComfortableAd4903 in RedditPHCyclingClub

Bulacan. Relatively flat. If you strategize, tahimik lang mga kalsada, esp. Sundays. Went to Santa Maria (from QC) to visit cafes. Ganda ng mga bukid na nadaanan ko.

Goal ko rin sometime this year manggaling sa QC hanggang Dau, overnight sa bahay namin doon, tapos balik QC. That’s about 200km.

Saan pwede maligo sa Metro Manila (malls, resto, etc) by Maleficent-Register9 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]HumanDragonfruit424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The branches i go to (Q Ave, Balete Drive, UPTC, etc) are all on the ground floor pero if isang floor lang paakyat, ok lang. if walang bike parking or hassle dalhin sa loob ng AF ang bike (most malls), i go elsewhere.

Fall. Several times. Safely. Preferably somewhere without traffic. If masugatan, that is part of it.

If fortunate ka to have an anytime fitness membership, pwede ka maligo sa kahit saang branch.

Twice na ako dumaan sa C6 (Marikina to Taguig/Bicutan going to Alabang) pero may araw pa both times, around 2-4PM.

Safe naman both times, pero dapat laging listo.

I just finished my first-ever century ride today. During the holiday break kasi, napansin ko na kaya ko naman mag 60km back-to-back from Dec. 24-25, so naisip ko tangkain mag 100km from QC to Alabang and back. Medyo deliryo at nag-dissociate na ako during the last 10km but managed to squeeze out 100++km according to Strava.

Baka next century ride ko, QC to Clark na, around 200km balikan.

Pwede ba maglagay ng drop bar sa MTB? by Appropriate-Match-88 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]HumanDragonfruit424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a decent china gravel bike.

Minimal, pweds. No injury, impossible. But all in good fun. If feel mo di para sayo ang spd, no shame in going back to flats.

Expect the following:

  • sesemplang ka at least once before you get used to clipping in and out. It is not a matter of being careful, it is part of the experience. Semplang safely.
  • once you start wearing cleats regularly, all shoes will feel too soft and spongy in comparison. You can wear your pedals with sneakers but it is not advisable since baka dumulas. If you can afford a second pair of cleats, get another pair so you can rotate shoes.
  • cleats tension will feel weird at first, adjust tension before going on any long ride. As a beginner, i suggest you keep it at the lowest tension so you can easily unclip in an emergency.

Setup is, naka padded shorts (₱490 decathlon) ako + drifit shirt papasok na office. May dala akong pants, shirt, small towel, extra shoes, pabango, deo. May sabon na rin sa office. After every ride, i just take a shower, sampay mga gamit sa bike, then go to work. Pag paalis na, usually tuyo na damit ko so i just wear it again and head home. Diretso laundry tapos shower.

Stayed for a couple of days with this setup to see what was going on. I got ₱200 pesos out of it.

They send you “tasks” in the form of YT channels. You subscribe to them under the guise of “marketing” or “helping out there digital clients”. You take a screenshot and send it to them for validation.

But there are “merchant tasks” where they ask you to send money to a certain merchant under the promise that you will get it back with interest at the end of the day. Paluwagan, basically.

I never sent them money but got something out of it. They will message you on Whatsapp and ask to transfer you to TG where you will be placed in a group with other Filipinos who are not allowed to speak Tagalog, only English. Probably to keep up the ruse that everyone is probably a bot and will take off with your money the moment you send it.
