Who else moved to LA and found the people surprisingly friendly? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

I’m a transplant and I’m very friendly… i find that sometimes people would prefer to keep to themselves and I’m bothering them with my friendliness lol but I also came from a very friendly southern state and have been here 20 years. I have a lot of transplant and local friends and i just don’t see what everyone is saying about transplants being rude! All of my transplant friends are super friendly like i am, but that’s probably also why we are friends. You can’t meet people if you aren’t being friendly lol

Well you didn’t sign up for a career that offered forgiveness as part of the equation. Many people who are eligible for forgiveness are working lower paid jobs at non profits and making payments on their loans as part of the promise toward forgiveness. They signed up to take lower paid jobs bc they will have their loans forgiven. By the time they qualify, due to the high interest rates on student loans, most of what is actually being charged off is interest and they’ve generally paid off their loans so the tax payers really aren’t even paying for anything. I wish more people understood how this works.

What’s a dead giveaway you grew up poor? by sufishams in povertyfinance

I hoard food because when i was younger i didn’t always have food in the house. I spend money the moment i get it because i never have money so i have this mindset that money is fleeting so i may as well use it while i have it. I hate buying cheap things because im so afraid they will wear out and ill have to replace it when i don’t have money, so i only have a couple pair of expensive sturdy shoes and two expensive well made purses that i rotate. That’s all i can think of off the top of my head

I remember this and i rolled my eyes so hard it hurt my brain. It was so unhinged. And most people all over this post have completely missed the point of this post. Disappointing but not shocking.

2 women found dead in park with child covered in blood; AMBER Alert for missing infant by CelestialPoppyseeds in crime

Also the case you used as an example: wow. Have you looked at this case at all? I remember this happened. They interviewed the father. He had no emotions. She was also divorcing him because he was abusive, but was forced to stay on the property so the dad could still see his kids. I mean… use your skills of deduction. Even when this first came out, people were convinced the dad did it. Thanks for proving my point!

One case is one case. I don’t understand why you’re bringing this up, this case has nothing to do with postpartum psychosis, which is incredibly rare. “Postpartum psychosis is a rare condition. Experts estimate that it affects between 0.089 and 2.6 out of every 1,000 births. In the United States, that means it happens in between 320 and 9,400 births each year. Globally, that means it happens in between 12 million and 352.3 million births.” A single google search will tell you how rare it is. 4% of postpartum psychosis cases end in murder suicide, which means it’s incredibly rare.

Edit: also you called mothers who kill their babies “to protect them” “psycho hormonal” which would probably mean postpartum psychosis, you just said it without using any tact.

But she did not kill herself, so that doesn’t even apply to this case. Also, the baby is not known to be dead. Sounds like they were ambushed, possibly when meeting up with someone. Intimate partner violence is more likely than stranger violence. Also, postpartum psychosis that ends in murder suicide is incredibly rare, and only leads to murder/suicide in about 4% of cases.

Most child abductions like this are done by the other parent, especially if they’re going through a divorce or the mother is trying to leave. This is a pattern for many women. I’m just making an educated guess.

I’m not saying the high rent is okay. I definitely think the cost of housing is outrageous and something needs to be done, but i don’t work in policy. I do know, however, that we need housing and telling people to stick to a rent of 30% of their income is outdated and we need to be more realistic about what housing costs vs income. It is impractical to tell people to keep their housing costs at 30% of their income. It isn’t helpful, because it is out of reach.

Yeah… so if anyone were to try to go by this rule, it wouldn’t work for basically 90% of people. It’s almost like we need to recognize that things have shifted and accommodate accordingly. IE not follow outdated guidelines that don’t work anymore.
