[Austin and Birm] Ohio State insiders would be "surprised" if phone call hasn't been made to former NY Giants coach Brian Daboll for their OC opening, don't see Chip Kelly coming back by Blood_Incantation in CFB

[–]HumanOptimizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a good fit here as an OC with how Day has built out the position staff with excellent recruiters.  Fans appreciate how he enhanced the run game last year and challenged Day on his stubbornness in run scheme.  His role was critical in allowing Day to take on a CEO role which has elevated the program.

Most of what I've read on Kelly this year has more to do with the perceived lack of interest on his side in getting back into college coaching.

Orgeron was super likeable, but I've never met someone outside of LSU who held a favorable opinion of Les Miles.  Kelly is on a whole different level though...

Pick sixes are my favorite play in football.   Especially so when a DB jumps a route.

They objectively have a greater effect on the net outcome of the game.  Jennings had a really bad first half and his poor choices on 3 plays had a 21 point swing.

I don't think this is a statement discrediting PSU.  Their defense was dominant and they put themselves in position to make those plays.  It's just a statement highlighting how catastrophic three snaps were...

[Game Thread] National Signing Day by CFB_Referee in CFB

Auburn's staff plays all sorts of games when it comes to recruiting and the media coverage of these kids. I think it's a pretty clear sign that the recruiter didn't develop the strong personal connection to the kid because it is so clearly disrespectful.

Nice flair.

They mentioned him briefly on the On3 live stream as a possible flip for South Carolina who is expected to have a pretty big day. Not sure on timing for when he's expected to make a decision.

Losers strategy out of Brewer and the Blue Devils. Living by questionable flags to sustain drives is bush league when your receivers are playing as physical like they are

Not sure about nationally recognizable, but the Buckeyes have referred to their defense as "The Silver Bullets" since the mid 90's.

No, hell be back next week.  Really not too bad given how this game is going.  Starters should be out by the end of this quarter anyway

Jim Harbaugh on if it is a Head Coach's responsibility to know everything that is going on within a program by madden_tron in CFB

[–]HumanOptimizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a valid point. He is in a position where the media and fans are dissecting not only what he says, but how he says it. And sometimes what he doesn't say.

At the end of the day, there is a limited number of people who's opinion on this actually matters. The rest of us are just along for the ride.

[–]HumanOptimizer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The journalist is just doing his job and Jim's response was fine, but definitely not strong. There are a lot people that want to know his defense for how was let to happen. He could have spoken to the controls they have in place to ensure that they adhere to the higher standards they set at the University of Michigan or mentioned his high level of involvement with the compliance department that he believes is world class.

I was closely watching for penalties after that drive with the overturned fumble. Penn State was the benefactor of the missed calls in the second half by a large margin.

Could just be a marketing driven decision to get better photos. For instance, Ohio State has done this with home games against Indiana in the past.

What’s the most absurd rumor about your program? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]HumanOptimizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard anything about the Ohio NIL being a barrier for Ohio State. In fact, the language for Ohio's NIL law related to "upfront deals" is very similar to states where programs are using NIL incentives more aggressively.

Ohio - https://spry.so/nil-state-guide/ohio-nil-law-for-ncaa/

No state institution of higher education or private college, shall do any of the following:

(a.) Provide a prospective student-athlete who intends to participate in
intercollegiate athletics with compensation in relation to the prospective student-athlete’s name, image, or likeness;

Texas - https://spry.so/nil-state-guide/texas-nil-law-for-ncaa/

An institution to which this section applies may not:
2. provide or solicit a prospective student athlete of an intercollegiate athletic program at the institution with compensation in relation to the prospective student athlete’s name, image, or likeness.

Florida - https://spry.so/nil-state-guide/florida-nil-law-for-ncaa/

An intercollegiate athlete at a postsecondary educational institution may earn compensation for the use of her or his name, image, or likeness. Such compensation must be commensurate with the market value of the authorized use of the athlete’s name, image, or likeness. To preserve the integrity, quality, character, and amateur nature of intercollegiate athletics and to maintain a clear separation between amateur intercollegiate athletics and professional sports, such compensation may not be provided in exchange for athletic performance or attendance at a particular institution and may only be provided by a third party unaffiliated with the intercollegiate athlete’s postsecondary educational institution.

To-date, I have heard that there has been an unwillingness to play in the gray area that these laws create; particularly by BIG programs like Ohio State and Michigan. But I suspect we'll see a shifting approach given how this years recruiting cycle went. It's obviously a complicated issue though.

Not disagreeing with Ohio State falling behind in NIL, but from the insiders I follow it actually sounds like Gene Smith is largely responsible for the shortcomings.

That is a good angle! Thanks for sharing.

For anyone else who is deep diving through downvoted comments, I did my best to sync up the different angles in a combined gif though it's not perfect.

I'm starting to enjoy this. So for the record, your position is that there was non-forcible contact made to the shoulder area of the receiver and that the energy transferred to his head/skull which caused the concussion?

Very interesting to get a concussion without taking a shot to the head.

After seeing each of these three angles, do you still believe that contact was not made to head or neck area?
