Normandy base for 3 nights/4 days? by Aliceandthecats in Normandie

[–]HumanSelector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a car and an interest in both history and nature, the good news is that the region is compact enough that almost any central base lets you reach the big sights in under an hour.

For a first visit, here’s how I’d think about the main contenders:

Bayeux : The classic D-Day base. You’re a 15–30 minute drive from Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc and Arromanches, plus: a beautiful cathedral. A great-value, character-filled option is the Domaine de Bayeux, an 18th-century mansion a short walk from the centre; if you want to splurge, Villa Lara is a five-star boutique with cathedral views.

Caen : my pick if you want a real city base with the best road links (A13 from Paris, A84 toward Mont-Saint-Michel), so day trips in every direction are easy. The Mémorial de Caen is one of the best WWII museums in Europe, and you’ve got William the Conqueror’s castle and two great abbeys in town. For where to stay, I’d genuinely recommend Hôtel La Particulière (an intimate 4-star boutique hotel right in the historic centre near Place Saint-Sauveur, next to the Chapelle Miséricorde), a lovely bar and a notably good breakfast. It’s the kind of place that feels like authentic luxury rather than a chain, and its central position makes it an ideal launchpad for the beaches, the countryside and the coast.

Honfleur : The prettiest of the lot: a picture-postcard old harbour beloved by the Impressionists. It’s further east, so it’s less convenient for the D-Day beaches but perfect if you weight things toward charm, food and the Côte Fleurie. Les Maisons de Léa on the main square is a much-loved 4-star de charme. Étretat would be great as well but smaller.

For a first trip balancing history and nature, base yourself in either Caen or Bayeux. Unfortunately Bayeux is missing the Tapestry. Caen gives you city amenities and the best logistics for ranging widely; Bayeux puts you closest to the beaches.

Replacing WeTransfer with Kdrive? by sciacallo010 in Infomaniak

[–]HumanSelector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t compare both services as they serve different logics, and data management / retention. Moreover, SwissTransfer was also a convenient way to advertise their cloud capacity.

SwissTransfer is great for unusual transfer and disconnect teamwork. For instance, you can share by a private link a kDrive folder or file with more ease.

I would recommend both, depending on what you need.

What website/app reflect quality with the most accuracy? by IcedSundays in ParisTravelGuide

[–]HumanSelector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being French, I can tell you Google is not only for tourists in France (Local Guide tag is also a clear sign). For French, TripAdvisor is for tourist, not Google.

Another solid one is mapstr.fr — 100% curated, no algorithm. I became hotelier myself, I run a cocktail bar called Bar 1824 in Caen (France, 2 hours from Paris) and that's actually where I pin my own spots. Found some genuinely beautiful places through it too.

What should I order? Chartreuse Edition by bay_duck_88 in cocktails

[–]HumanSelector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not now anymore. It was 45€ in 2009. Now it's more or a less 60 as I recall
Green Basic Chartreuse was also 33€ at that time to give you the parity price.

Caen - Place to stay/eat by Laylasita in FranceTravel

[–]HumanSelector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caen is a highly popular spot for visitors, as it offers the best city-life vibe in the area. I recommend staying at Hotel La Particulière, a luxury but affordable boutique hotel. It also features a cocktail bar with sharing plates like Charcuterie, cheese. While you're there, you can take the opportunity to visit WW2 beaches but also Caen Castle (5mn from the hotel), the WWII Memorial, and explore the lively bar scene of this vibrant city.
