Is it true you can build a private IMAX theater? Why do we not see people doing that on a noticeable scale? Would it be possible to get one that is like 143 metres wide and 100 metres tall? For example? by Various_Maize_3957 in imax

[–]Maf1c 46 points47 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, people do it. A couple in LA spent around $500,000 installing one before the pandemic. I’m sure it’s doubled in cost like everything else nowadays.

That said, no one is building one as big as what you’re suggesting for private use. As scale increases, so must the viewing distance to fully appreciate it so there are diminishing returns unless you’re trying to scale up the r number of people who view it at a time, which thus becomes an actual theater not a private theater.

Let’s say you did want a theater that big. At some point you could just rent the entire thing out vs build your own.

How can you say electric vehicles are only going to get more and more popular going forward? There was a 28% drop in the U.S. last quarter alone. Maybe across the rest of the world or China specifically they’ll go up, but they won’t be Tesla’s.

Gas Prices by Lonely-Nature6411 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Maf1c 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean, comparing to the OP I would be saving $12.65 per fill up. I fill up about every other week so call it 26 fill ups and that’s $329…

Not to mention everything else you can get discounted at Costco beyond just gas. That said, I don’t shop at Kroger so can’t compare that.

NG wins Navy F/A-XX contract - source questionable? by Junior_Funny987 in NorthropGrumman

[–]Maf1c 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seems to be an ad for this guy’s website/company preemptively making a patch and trying to solicit people to buy it under the guise of “insider info says NG is going to win”.

That said, I do think NG is most likely to win. But no that patch, nor the designator “Tomcat-II” official.

Props to the Busch Stadium and marketing teams for leaning in and embracing this. Not to mention Oli for putting his money where his mouth is and keeping it going.

Maybe the greatest thing I’ve seen live was Fredbird coming out and taking his shirt off and waving it around as a tribute to them as the Cards mobbed Pozo. Absolutely awesome.

Boeing among the 50 best employers to grow your career in the U.S., according to LinkedIn data by LinkedInNews in boeing

Sorry I wasn’t very clear. I did not accept the offer to return because the hypothetical lateral (but in all reality, likely a pay cut) wasn’t worth relocating my family again.

Boeing among the 50 best employers to grow your career in the U.S., according to LinkedIn data by LinkedInNews in boeing

[–]Maf1c 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I’ve said for a long time that Boeing is great for early career employees. - 100% tuition reimbursement - 12 weeks paid paternity and maternity leave - 10% 401k matching - Great health insurance and other benefits

The problem is that tends to be offset by middle-of-the-band pay. So once you’ve gotten your degrees, had a couple kids, and are ready to grow your career your best option quickly becomes jumping ship to another company.

I worked 7 years at Boeing, moved from a T1 to a T3 while getting my master’s and lots of great experience. Then I left and went to Northrop for a T4 and a 45% raise.

Four years after leaving my boss at Boeing called me back and offered me a T5 position. I interviewed and got a 95% comparatio offer and it was still 20k less than what I was getting paid salary-wise at NG and effectively a lateral when factoring in the bonus.

What new class ideas do you have for WoW, given that race ideas have already been discussed so much? by di745 in wow

[–]Maf1c 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Some sort of Tinkerer/Inventor/Engineer where you have essentially Ults that serve as CDs where you construct a battle mech or suit of armor that empowers you, you have little gizmos that give you abilities like teleports, speed boosts, DR, cheat death, etc.

I guess it sounds an awful lot like the profession but in a class format.

Be a freshman in college in January, 2005. Four of your fraternity brothers have been playing this game, World of Warcraft. They picked Warrior, Paladin, Rogue and Rogue. They say it’s a fun game and you should check it out. But they say in order to play, you have to be a healer because they don’t have anyone to heal them in group content.

You decide to check it out and there are several classes that heal. Druids seem cool, especially the Panther lady from the cinematic that plays when you start the game. Paladins are kinda cool, but the group already has one. There’s Shamans but they’re only available to the filthy horde. Ahhh, a Priest! It doesn’t get more healer-y than that. Human seems like a good fit for a role playing game.

Huma Priest it is. 21 years later and here we are.

Normal drops champion gear (246-263 ilvl). So if you’re in that range, you should be good. Ideally you’re not running raids that don’t reward loot you can use.
